AIM's connection keeps dropping.

For the past 2 weeks, I've been experiencing an annoying problem with AIM. At first I would get disconnected every few minutes, however now it is not as frequent. And when I'm actually on AIM, it lags horribly. For example, people would message me, but most of the time I will not recieve the message till several minutes later. And if they messaged me several times, then I would get it all at once. What could be the problem? I've tried reformatting, switching out my router with a friend's, and resetting the modem to no avail.

I have only been having d/c then reconnect I havn't had any of your other problems I donno whats up with that.

You're using AIM or Trillian or another client over the AIM system?

AIM for some reason keeps changing things so I have to get patches for my Trillian to get around them. Otherwise, it will fail to connect to AIM or drop the connection regularly.

ICQ, MSN, etc, all work fine. Just AIM that gets jacked.

I've tried using Trillian to see if it was just the aim software that is giving me problems, but even then I still get the connection problems.

What router are you using? I had a Linksys BEFSR41 that had this same problem. I updated the firmware to the latest version and my problem went away. Hope that helps.

BEFSR41 right here. I've tried updating the firmware, and it still happens. So you're saying it's most likely a router problem?

I have my BEFSR41 set to keep the connection alive every 20 seconds. I'm using firmware version 1.44.2 dated December 13, 2002. Since updating to that firmware, my problem has been solved. I'm sure there's probably newer firmwares since this one- try going back and using that particular one. Good luck.

I was using the latest firmware, and just rolled back to 1.44.2. So far so good! I haven't had the problem occur yet! Thanks for the help, hopefully it stays fixed.

good to see you might have a solution. I wouldnt be surprised if this was also a problem with aol and its servers.
