AIM Profile Limit...

I searched in the archives and the one person who provided a link, doesn't come up. Anyone remember how to edit this? I thought it was a HTML file, but I can't find it in Windows XP.

Yeah... what's the profile limit?

I don't know why they have aim "profiles." I've never used them ever except when I'm checking their away messages.

I have no idea what it is you're asking.

In your AIM profile... it limits you to 1,024 characters if I remember right. Your profile is stored in a HTML file if I remember correctly. I just need to know where that file is hidden or another way around it without using external profile sites.

in Windows NT/2000:

C:\Documents and Settings\~user~\Application Data\Aim\~username~\info.htm
dunno about windows 98

Doesn't seem to work that way anymore.

yeah its not working 🙁

SubProfile sucks!!! My friends and I stopped using it because their website keeps returning errors when people click on the profile links. :disgust:

I'm curious. Is this a small webserver embedded into the AIM client(unlikely) or is it just a file transfer? I imagine one could cause a great deal of havoc by altering the file to something not so nice. I need to experiment tomorrow. For now...I sleep

If you are willing to make other people click once more, just make a simple HTML page and put the link in your profile that opens in the same window. It works the same as a "subprofile."

so i could make a webpage...save it as the info in the aim dir. and it could be veiwed from my aim profile?

No. Make a page and upload it somwhere on the next. Then make a link inside your AIM profile and format it like this:

<a target="_self" href="http://www.myname.com/aim.html">My extended profile</a>

When people click on it, it will load your page in the AIM profile window. The page can be as long as you want, but you can only display things that are in normal AIM profiles (no images, scripts).

isint there some prog or something that allows you to put images in your profile?

like it's already been posted, the only way to do it is to edit the html and add a link in there.

you can *lengthen* it, though, by taking out the unnecessary html that is added automatically. that can get you a few extra sentences, but not much.
