AIM Problems

Ok, so about two weeks ago, we switched to a wireless modem, with my computer being hardwired and the other computer in the house receiving the wireless signal from the modem Well everything was working fine up until a couple of days ago. Now whenever I try to sign on AIM with my regular screen name, it either hangs at "Step 2: Verifying Password, etc" and won't sign on, or it will take it five minutes to sign on. Then once I do happen to get on, it frequently disconnects.

However, this does not happen with any of my other screennames. They all sign on and stay connected fine. I've tried everything, from uninstalling, to using GAIM, to reformatting.

WTF is going on?

Thanks

Disabling the firewall is really not a great idea.

However, making sure your AIM has internet rights in your firewall, and that it can make an outgoing connection through your router is certainly ok.

I'm not convinced that we've hit the root of the problem though. No other problems seem to be present ... all other messengers can "message" just fine. This suggests that the problem lies within either the software or AIM's actual network. Without much other to go on at this time, I'll put my "money" on AIM's instant messenging network as the source of the problems you have. It also sounds like the introduction of the wireless router is just a mere coincidence in this case .... especially since its the WIRED system that is struggling on ONE and only ONE program.

It makes no sense to mess with whats working .... only with what is not.

Yeah, I believe that the modem switch is a coiencidence as well, as AIM was working fine the first week after we switched. But yeah, I think that it is the AIM network. Very strange...
