AIM Name Blocked

Spooner

Lifer
I think there was a thread about this before... but I think my 'rents finally cancelled the old AOL account we had for many years. I guess my screen name originated in AOL, so when they cancelled it, it won't allow me to log into AIM anymore.

Now, I don't mind switching names all that much, but I never saved my damn buddy list.

Did we ever find out if there was someway for me to recover my buddy list? Is it stored anywhere on the machine?

If i remember correctly if you assigned your AOL screen name with Aim you should be able to keep it, i have still have original AOL named tied with my AIM name and not have AOL.

same here. I have the same as my original AOL name but that has been cancelled for a really long time.

I originally signed up with aol. Then I downloaded AIM using the same name. Now when I sign into AIM, it says i'm blocked because of cancelled service.

If I go to aim.com and try to register name again... it says it being used.

IIRC, the same thing happened to one of my friends. Her parents cancelled the AOL account that she had originally created her screen name with, even though she had been using AIM for the past several years. They did it before telling her, so she couldn't dl her buddy list either. She called a csr who said she was pretty much SOL...

EDIT: fixed grammar/spelling

you might want to go to aim.com and look for the section to reset the password and it will ask you for your name and password and probably the zip code that you used with your old AOL account and maybe if your lucky it will give it back to you, otherwise sorry man your SOL.
