AIM is so damn buggy!

1) My friend's buddy list randomly got deleted.
2) Sometimes when you DC, messages don't get sent properly
3) Right when you start AIM, the stupid "<X> signed on" message pops up for every person on your buddy list
4) Countless little glitches everywhere with the interface: buttons/menus/images
5) Stupid profile editor! When I deleted one character from my profile and pressed "Accept changes" it said I was over my limit. The hell? I was fine before but after deleting some characters it said I was over my limit
6) Sometimes when initiating a conversation, the thing would just hang at "Send Message" and I'd have to go on my other screenname to do it.
7) Great number to end on: 7 * 6 = 42. But the list goes on.

Any alternatives?

GAIM: I hated GAIM for the lack of essential features such as Direct Connect and Send File, and other things that just don't work.
TerrAIM:I hated TerrAIM becuase of the lack of Direct Connect, and the utter lack of features.
Trillian: I didn't like trillian becuase of the profile viewer thing,
AIMutation: YES. Tabbed windows! But AIMutation makes it EVEN MORE buggy.

Am I stuck with this POS? I don't really mind if the interface is bloated. I can't stop using an AIM client beucase pretty much everyone I know uses AIM.

Trillian - what profile issue? You mean for displaying the HTML coding? There is a plugin for that.

yep it's called mini browser. IIRC you need trillian pro for plugins though, so if you obtain that through legal means that could be a problem. otherwise...

yup aim is so bloated for me. it seems like every revision it gets bigger and takes more resources. i dont even like to keep it open now unless i want to chat with my aim buddies. annoying tv ads built into the aim. alot of my buddies switched to msn, takes half the resource of aim and has all the aim feature and more.

AIM+DeadAIM is tolerable for me, even though I have to disable buddy icons completely to regain and semblance of control over my desktop real estate. I also like using GAIM and just hopping on AIM when I need to file transfer.

Don't you have to switch to an older version of AIM to use DeadAIM?

I'm using 5.9.3690. They never have new features that don't suck, so I only upgrade if there is a security problem I know about.

It's a bitch, but it just depends on how much file transfers and direct connect I need to do, which isn't a whole lot any more.

I'd just like to say I send/receive files just fine with Gaim, I've forwarded the necessary ports and all is well. Gaim rocks.

aim+ad-hack for me when i can't use trillian. altho, the minibrowser is a pain in that it likes to crash on me quite a bit. it's also not perfect when rendering aim profiles that have a background color it seems, and the html profile editor really sucks (defaults to a font i don't like all the time)

AIM works fine for me...I use middle man and I belive the 5.4 version no bugs or problems

Tools .. Preferences.. Network.

Turn off autodetect IP, and put in your public IP (www.whatismyip.com).

Then manually specify the port range, default I believe is 1024 to 2048. You can set whatever range you want. Then just hit up your router and forward whatever ports you set to the computer you're using Gaim on. Done deal.
