AIM is fantastic and I like the ability to exchange files easily, which the clones seem to have trouble with.
Is there a way to disable the streaming ads in the top part? Every now and then they choke my system for some unknown reason.

Haven't heard of Miranda before now, must be fairly new. I usually use Trillian Pro myself, I see they are alpha testing version 3.0 right now.

Actually, Miranda has been around for several years. It's got a no-frills, bloatfree interface and has everything I need in an IM client.

Aim ad hack is free and works great for getting rid of the ads and spyware in AIM now.

I like to see an active development cycle, last release of Miranda is dated April 2004. :( I'll keep an eye on it though I don't use IM as much any more.

i vastly prefer miranda to trillian. interface might be a personal preference (altho very important), it is a known fact miranda takes up much less memory. does trillian even support 2byte languages? to top it all, its silly to pay for a messenger program when there are alternatives with equal or greater capabilities (miranda, gaim)

how's miranda at file transfer ? I can't seem to get Trillian (AIM) to transfer files to my buddies. Is this an interface-between-users thing (ports) or application thing (trillian<>AIM<>etc.) ?
