AIM and ads

I remember there was a trick to get rid of ads in AIM.

How do I do that?

Private MSG me please.

That visualization program is awesome. I was wondering if there was way to change the visual (ie: from the oscilloscope to say bars or something like that) or if there is another plugin that has a different visual. Nice find Paul, I've always wondered how to get rid of those stupid ads.

score! thats just what i was looking for! anyone know how to get rid of the blank space now where the ads were?

I had been looking for this info too. I saw it a long time ago and forget where it was. Thanks.

I would also like to be able to put whatever I wanted in the space the adds used to take up. If anyone knows how, please share...

looking at this file, it looks like you can edit it so it doesnt start up with all those blasted useless features. anyone know how this can be done exactly? im talking specifically about turning off: ticker, talk, mail, and games. if know, let us know please.

turning off: ticker, talk, mail, and games.

My AIM>Edit Options>Edit Preferences.
Ticker>uncheck all boxes
Talk>select Don't Allow radio buttons
Mail>remove all mailboxes
Games>Games List>removing games and/or changing .exe to null or non-existent values is as effective as removing the capability.

As a side note, AIMad also works to remove ads.

hmmm, maybe i wasnt clear. i mean doesnt this stuff suck up ram even tho you dont see it running? its there "ready to run" isnt it? can you completely disable it? AIM's getting to be liek icq...bloatware.

No..it's not running. It simply has the ability to run until you turn it off (as in preferences). Therefore, there's no "extra rum sucking" going on.

can you completely disable it?

That's what a preferences panel is for -- disabling options. If you hate it so much, go back to an earlier version of AIM or use an AIM clone...there are many.
