Ahhhhh my toe hurts!

I had it done twice. First time, the anesthetic shot hurt far worse than the toe ever did. I've talked to others who agree that particular shot is a fucking BITCH.

Second time, I went to a specialized podiatrist. He sprayed the toe with cold stuff first, and I didn't feel a thing after that. He cut it down to the root and then killed the root in that spot. It felt better immediately and I was pain-free in two days.

Lesson: Go to a podiatrist rather than your GP.

QFMFT

My GP did what yours did, so I went to a podiatrist and he did what yours did, cold spray and he mixed the lidocaine with bicarbonate so it wouldn't burn.

I had it before. I went to the doctor to cut out the part of the nail that was ingrown. After that, I never got it again.

MANCARD NOW!

(Although if it helps prevent ingrown toenails I might be up for it)

Had a few. I let one go for a year or so and i had a bloody sock every day. Finally went to the doctor and he had to put 4 anesthetic shots into it....ugh bad feeling

Podiatrist removed the part of the nail bed. Wasn't too bad, although he had to give me a lot of anesthesia shots. He was seriously confused as to why I could still feel my toe after the first couple. "If this next one doesn't work, then I went to medical school for nothing." Cue giant shot.

I didn't really mind the surgery part. But while it was still healing my wife accidentally stepped on it. That hurt. A lot. I screamed like a bitch. 😛

I used to have chronic ingrown toenails because my shoes were too small. I had to get the same nail pulled out by the doctor twice. Once with out the anesthetic.

I've had them removed and that is way worse than dealing with them. The packing shit is terrible.

By the way, thank your parents. Ingrown toenails are hereditary.

Some people have extra "meat" where the nail comes down at the sides of the toe. This can lead to ingrown nails easier than other people.

See my examples:

no extra "meat"

extra "meat"

I have the extra meat, so as I got older ingrown toenails were a big problem. Bloody socks and all that shit. I had both big toes fixed as described here. Cut out the nail and kill the bed. My left toe was left with just a strip in the center, the right is only missing a portion on the inside.

Yes, it's hereditary. Both grandparents on my mom's side had the same issues. It fucking sucks.

I'm one of those people who knows how to properly cut her toenails so I've never had one. 😉

Just had it cut out AGAIN today. 🙁

It's a reaalllly great experience.

Anyone else ever have it done?

i had it done once, cost 70 or 80 bucks. fuck that. gimme 2 shots of liquor and a hot shower and i fix it myself. i get one once, maybe twice a year.

I might get be getting one right now, I lost a toe nail after I hiked the grand canyon. It's grown most of the way out but it's digging in a bit.

I can usually pick at them and pull the nail out with a pair of pliers myself but it never really fixes the problem. I've been to a podiatrist once to have the operation and when she pulled out the nail it was probably about the size of a nickel (I'm talking about the part that was ingrown not the rest of the nail). I've had them real bad for a long time. Even had some come through the other side of my toe, where they dont curl around and just grow straight out back through the flesh. You asked.

I had it 6 times... basically 3 on each foot and the funny thing was my podiatrist kill the root each time and can't figure out why it keep growing back.. i need to have it done again..

The nail grows sideways, not and warps down into the side.. weird

I dont mind going cuz she is HAWTTTTT

She's not killing it completely so that you'll keep on coming back. It's a sign! 😉

I used to get mild cases that would create pus but I was always able to fix them myself. I think it was from me not properly cutting my nails. I don't get them anymore though.

I rarely get them now that I wear properly fitting shoes and I cut my nails better. If I do get one I just deal with it. The pain isn't too bad.

Same here. Eventually was able to get ahold of it and pull it out relatively unpainfully (as far as I remember).
