My Viewsonic 17PS that I bought in November of 1996 is dying. Over the last few days I've noticed the colors changing, fading, etc.....tonight a black spot started in the center of the screen....it is now just about the size of a dime and growing. Alas....my poor monitor. She has served me well, should have since it was $700 at the time, but now her days are numbered.

A moment of silence for my dear friend please.....

Dell? A freaking Dell? I wouldn't take one if you gave it to me. We have them at work and they look awful compared to my old 17PS. Of course the 17PS was a professional model and was aimed at high end graphics types. I bought it back then because it had the best picture. Guess it's time to start searching for a new one.

Can't decide. Might go with a 17" LCD. Although I've never really seen one that looks right with some games. I'm not a heavy gamer but I don't want to get something that makes the few games I do play look like crap. Just depends on what I turn up in readng some reviews and looking at them first person.

The LCDs are rebadged Samsung, which are among the best -- only the latest Hitachi is better (for gaming) and there isn't a 19" Hitachi yet just 17".

You shouldn't rip on Dell until you actually see one in action.

Their LCD's are actually quite good.
 
I'm using a gateway monitor on this computer (rebadged MAG) thats from December of 1996. She does a good flickering once in a while so it's just a matter of time.
