thanks guy cuz im ordering my pc in a few mins and im just waiting on my dad i got scaared b/c i didn;t see the EIDE on it, not that i know what that means but its my pre buy worries, thanks for such fast responses

If you can live with 20g, go with IBM's new 60gxp at Hypermicro. $130 for 20g, $165 for 40g. Faster than both that you mention.

Looks like the IBM is from the DeskStar 75GXP model line. They are the fastest? IDE drives out there.

I've got one in 60GB and it definitely outperforms the ata100 Western Digital though not by much.

One thing though. It is *alot* noisier, IMHO, than the WD.

also do i need like an extra special ide cable for the HD ? or does the bare drive have the cable thanks

To take advantage of the ata100 drive you'll need both 1) a controller that supports this (many current MoBo's have this capability, if not a PCI controller should run ~$40?), and 2) a 80 wire/40 pin IDE cable. This cable will be required for either ata66 or ata100 operation.

Check in the hot deals forum and you can get the Maxtor 40 GB HD and ATA-100 controller card at staples for about $110 after rebate and coupon. Has 20GB platters

I just called Mwave and the cabel is not uncluded the one I would need to get is an ATA 100 66 frmo there site for 10 $. So i guess ill hafta buy the cable to so no biggie heh.

its 40 gigs but its only 5600 rpm. good deal though


I think maybe im gonna get the maxtor and the cable :-/. considering i hear that bot the drives are practically the same.
