AHHH, how can a company be this dumb?

Sorry but I need to VENT!

A little less than a month ago I called up a roofing company to schedule an attic fan installation in my townhouse. I asked them to give me any Friday that they had available. They gave me today as the date and 8am as the time and punched it into the computer. I called them 2 weeks later to confirm that they had all of my information. I called them yesterday to confirm that someone would be here at 8am ... At 8am the electricians show up that the roofing company contracted out to wire the attic fan. 8:30am ... No roofers. I call up the roofing company and ask if they're lost. They call me back 3 minutes later saying that while I was scheduled in their computer, no crew was scheduled to come out to my house! So I tell the lady that I specifically took today off to have the thing installed and they really need to be here. She says she'll search for a crew in the area and will call back ... She calls back and says they can be out there Monday morning at 8am earliest. So I screamed at her and told her she had better tell her boss that there needs to be some sortof discount involved in the price since I took off Friday to have them do this and they screwed everything up. (Her response to that was "Thats a little harsh to say we screwed everything up") ... I don't understand what they did RIGHT in this situation except pass the word onto the electricians! Her excuse was that their roofing foreman was on vacation this week. I guess scheduling an install and actually showing up for the install is too complex for them without the foreman.

Now luckily the electricians were here to also wire/install 3 ceiling fans. But this is ridiculous! The attic fan will now be installed on Monday 8am, but the electricians can't make it back out here until Wednesday morning!

This is definitely NOT how to run a business. If you can't even keep your appointments then how good is everything else you do???

Whatever you do, don't ever use Enterprise Roofing in Chantilly, VA! The electricians said this isn't the first time they've goofed!

That sucks, Liq! Good info, too...since I live in the area - kinda (Montgomery County).

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode of Jerry at the rental car counter:
"So you can TAKE the reservation, you just can't KEEP the reservation. If you reserved a car for me, then it's here, right?"

LOL at the BBB. How can they be that dumb? Well, they are coming on Monday and you are going to play them. They probably don't care a thing about your hissy fit and they are not likely to give you a discount. They are going to do it on thier schedule and if you get upset too bad. Think about who's dumb when you cut the check.

I'd phone them up, make a reservation, and then go to work on the day they're supposed to show up! Do it like Cramer did on Seinfeld with the cable guy.

These references continue to support my theory of life:

All life can be related to and lived according to Seinfeld episodes.

Long Live Jerry!

i don't know about virginia, but in NJ good contractors have SOOO much work that they are really selective which jobs they will and will not take.

i ended up doing the entire first floor in Hardwood by myself because i couldn't get anyone to come out and do it, was too small of a job.

the only guy that would even come out to give me a quote (the rest just turned me down over the phone) asked about 3 times what the job was worth.

That sucks to hear.

I'm on my 14th week of renovation work that my contractor told me he would do in 2 weeks. I'd say I myself did about 25% of the work and am still finishing up what he left unfinished. The jerk has lied to me in my face too many times to count and when I bring up the issue, he gets pissed at me. Fortunately, I haven't finished paying him and he won't get another cent from me.

Update:

Monday morning 7:45am, I call the jerks because I figure they're not reliable. They tell me their driver is sick and he's the only one who can drive and do attic fan installs. I then speak with their Roofing foreman or manager or whatever, and he tells me that he's upset that I yelled at his secretary and he says she told him that I "demanded" a discount (which isn't true, I simply said that I believe some sortof discount is in order for their screwup). He told me I made his secretary cry which is pretty funny because I hardly said anything. The worst I said to her was "You guys screwed up." Thats including the worst of my language as well, I didn't swear once. I yelled, but I think in that situation thats appropriate.

In any case, the guy says he doesn't make enough money off of the install to give me a discount and I should look elsewhere for a discount. He tells me also that I didn't confirm my Monday morning install with them so they aren't going to come out ... Funny how they're closed on Saturday and Sunday so they can't confirm an appointment I made on FRIDAY!

In any case, I found someone else to do the installation, same price but from a guy that works for himself. Hopefully he won't forget to give himself the message to come out to my house this Friday! :p

I've also filed formal complaints with the BBB and the Fairfax County Consumer Affairs office.

Definitely stay FAR FAR away from Enterprise Contracting (thats their official name) in Chantilly, VA! They obviously only care about the final dollar amount and couldn't care less about their customers.
