So my advisor (A Ph.D., none the less) won't meet with me. I'm taking one of her classes, and she's never available to talk after class. So I try email. She's usually very fast about responding. I emailed her a week ago asking to set up a time to meet to discuss my schedule for the fall semester. No reply. I tried this week. No reply. My registration is at 6 am on Monday morning, and there is no way that the two classes I need to complete my general ed requirement, latin 101 and astronomy 102, are going to be open. AHHH!!!!

She has a facebook. Honestly, I've done everything except go to her house. Ugh. I wouldn't mind it so much because we're pretty on key with what I need in my schedule, but I need my advisement code from her...

I'm assuming that you *have* to take the 2 classes this semester, so putting them off until the fall or next spring term isn't an option. The only thing I can think of is to try petitioning the professor to get into the class. Usually you head over to the registrar and obtain a form for the professor to fill. People do drop classes, or the professor might be sympathetic (ie. if you're a senior missing 1 required class for graduation).

Even though you have an assigned advisor, have you considered talking to someone else in the dept (ie chairman) ?

advisors blow ass. I have been doing my own scheduling and figuring out what I need since after my first semester. it only took one semester for me to figure out how screwed over you can get from them.

Yeah haha, I have a friend who always lets them pick his classes, he is getting screwed with like solid Ds this semester.

I just go and get a list of classes I need and have prereqs for then build my own schedule at home over a week of looking up professors online and looking at times/days for classes.

I went to my adviser once during my freshman year. He suggested I take 7 classes. A whopping 24 credits. I would have been in class 8am to 8pm M-F. That's the last time I ever talked to my adviser (that was four years ago).

I haven't needed the services of an advisor. My program dictates which courses I take in which semester and I am guaranteed a spot in those courses.

I learned from using my college advisor after a while. It's because I listened to them that I'm graduating 2 years after I should. Now I'm well on my way on getting that degree after ditching both of them (that's right, I left one and went to another thinking it would be better).

The advisors at my university were a bunch of dildos who were just there for the paychecks. I couldn't imagine a more unaccountable and uninspired group of idiots telling students what classes to take. It was like the blind and retarded leading the blind.

so all you did was email? did you try calling? Sometimes you gotta be more persistent.

to further add to the discussion
my accounting adviser doesn't even know anything about the classes
she is a sociology major or some other degree like that, with no background in accounting so I ask her about classes etc and all she can tell me is "well I didn't take that so I don't know first hand" etc

Makes it totally worthless so all I do is walk in, say "Hello how are you today, I need to do pre-enrollment approval" she says "OK you're approved to enroll, here's a list of classes you can take". I say "thanks, bye" and leave.

too true...but sometimes they come in handy for the other stuff. my advisor did the whole petitioning stuff for me when i wanted to use an AP course i took as a substitute for a major requirement

Yeah, we have to have a code. I just heard back from her. Today at 1. Hopefully it'll be in time to get my two classes...
