This is how politics will work in our post-racial era, divide people along ethnic lines to form a powerful voting bloc based on the color of your skin, absolutely disgusting.

"The Vietnamese and the Republicans are, with an intensity, (trying) to take this seat – this seat (from which) we have done so much for our community – to take this seat and give it to this Van Tran, who is very anti-immigrant and very anti-Hispanic."

Tran himself is an immigrant, having escaped Vietnam with his family shortly before the fall of Saigon. He has said he believes his immigrant past gives him an advantage in the central Orange County district.

Typical what's good for the Hispanics I guess isn't good for anyone else, I hope Tran wins.

OP that's how it has been for a while, and the democrats are the biggest offenders.

Saw the same thing happen a couple of years ago for city council seats in San Jose.

NOT anti LEGAL immigration but anti ILLEGAL immigration.

Gosh, I hate it when morons/ILLEGALS lovers are trying to mix two together.

And "the seat" was not hers, not Democrat or belongs to anyone but the people of that district/area.

So true, and worth repeating.

I remember the aftermath of Katrina. White folks looking for free NEMA trailers, black folks complaining that the government wasn't doing enough for them, and a handful of Vietnamese families sweeping up the pitifully small remnants of their home. I remember on woman had recovered a very small stack of unbroken saucers, wiping them off, and stacking them. I thought then, go get us some more of these people (legally please), as many as we can get, and they'll show us the way back to an America we thought long gone. (This time hopefully without the racism.) I know nothing of Tran and it's always dangerous to try extrapolating from race (an artificial construct in itself), but I wish him well.

The district is 70% hispanic, about 9% Vietnamese but they are only separated by a few percentage points in the polls??

The district is 70% hispanic, about 9% Vietnamese but they are only separated by a few percentage points in the polls??

I wonder if this 70% figure includes Illegal Immigrants who cannot vote. That would be pretty eye opening...
