Ahh...my gaming and upgrading days are slipping away

I don't game nearly as much as I used to. Maybe about an hour a day if that, and upgrading computers is way too expensive. Basically the turning point for a lot of people is getting a car, suddenly you have something that needs continual money input on a regular basis and you can't justify the continued expenditures on your computer when you need the car to actually do things.

I'm sure you were half joking, but your post was still annoying, and I wasn't exactly complaining about it. I'd rather be doing things that are helping my future and hanging out with people. Everyone needs down time, but now my down time is filled with trendy TV shows and relaxing/talking to people/listening to music instead of gaming.
In that case you don't have to sound so goddamned poetic about your 'gaming days' fading into the darkness of eternity. You prefer spending your free time watching TV, listening to music and 'talking to people', so the ****** what? It's not like you don't have a choice. Or did I miss something, are your friends forcibly keeping you chained up in their basement with limited access to electronics?

There are 24 hours in a day, some people choose to spend a significant part of that playing games, you choose not to, what more is there to this story?

You make it sound like you're unhappy with the change. If that's the case, less bitching and more schedule clearing.

Well I turn 20 in less than two months, I'm a sophomore in college, and my gaming and frequent upgrading days are already slipping away. With 15 credits in engineering, 15 hours/week of job, and my social life and down time, there is simply no time. And even when I do game, it is only for brief 15 minute or so spurts before I get bored and quit. I'm not all that interested in the new stuff except for a few particulars (Crysis, HL series), and I'm not all that ready or excited to swap out my single core CPU and 1 gig of memory for something bigger and faster.

From reading posts of the older folks here on AT, I knew this would happen one day, but I didn't expect it so soon!

Welcome to life. Wait until you have a girlfriend and eventually kids.

Yeah, no sh!t, we know that's what the story is, the thread is about making that transition from wanting to and doing so to losing the interest, which the majority of us seem to experience through college and into adulthood.

I think I made it pretty clear I'm also LOSING INTEREST in gaming, not just losing time to do it, with lines like "I quit after 15 minutes of playing."

Yeah, I haven't had a girlfriend since having a job in college, but I imagine with that added in the mix the little windows of down time would quickly get sealed up.

15 hours of work a week, plus 15 credits...That's only 30 hours a week. Account for 7 hours of sleep a day, 1.5 hours per day to eat, that leaves 78 and a half hours. BS, you've got no time.

My thoughts exactly. You have a shitload of time to play games, you just choose not to. You're not working double shift to support 8 retarded siblings and retired parents. Find a good game and play the ****** out of it.

If you really wanna be a gamer (not saying that you should, but it's not a bad thing), it will come back to you and you will make time for it.

If you still really want to be a gamer, you haven't quite grown up yet.
Bull$hit 😀

It actually comes to about 18 hours of class, 15 hours of work, 10 hours to eat, 55 hours of sleep, another 15 hours of homework, and around 5 hours of showering and using the bathroom. That leaves around 7 hours a day free. Figure in getting from place to place, seeing friends, talking to people and watching a couple one hour TV shows (not per day), and there is little time for games.

OF COURSE I have enough "free time" for games, but not enough free time to do all those other things PLUS games, like I used to in high school. I'm not about to sacrifice time with friends, parties, and some time just relaxing doing nothing for more gaming.

I wasn't saying I am the busiest person in the world, just that I don't have any convenient time for games, and that I don't feel like it anyway.

I don't have any convenient time for collecting and categorizing vintage postage stamps, and I don't feel like it anyway. It really can be said about anything you don't want to do, there's no revelation here 🙂

If you wanted to but didn't have the time due to responsibilities, now that's front page news. You're simply choosing not to 🙂

Believe it or not, I play less games than you. But between TV and gaming, gaming will always win. If you rather watch TV for two hours, so be it, I'd rather do something interactive and social.

Well see I used to feel that way, but now living in an apartment with a total of four guys, when everyone's watching a new show in the living room, are you going to join them or go in your room by yourself, shut the door, and game like a social outcast? Lol, I am exaggerating, but I usually go with the former because it's more fun and I get to hang out with my roommates.

Goddamn who pissed in your oatmeal?

Why do people have to be such asshats...

Well, there's the difference. I could absolutely NOT live with roommates. Out of the house it's all well and good, but I'd hang myself before sharing my space, even if it means cheap rent.

Depending on your curriculum that 15 credits turns into much more. For example if 8 of those credits are science courses with labs. You'll have regular courses plus 3 hour labs per class in there, in addition to studying for topics. So that's the normal 3 times per week per class + 6 hours of labs per week (3 hour labs x 2). Not to mention homework (pre labs and post labs can be an absolute pain in the arse).

Yeah, I don't have labs (except for one but it counts as its own 3-credit course), but it is electrical/computer engineering, so yeah...BUSY!

for about 2-3 weeks I cut back on gaming to maybe 2 hours a week. Now that things have settled down, I get to spend maybe 2 hours a night before I go to bed gaming my heart out! 😀

I'm 19 and I haven't upgraded my video card in nearly 3 years what's happening to me..? I do have time to play however I do not spend it gaming.. I've found myself watching a bit more TV than before though, although I'll never i swear never watch any reality tv shows 🙂 sci fi and 24 ftw

My guess is you're becoming lame. Give it a few more years and you're going to be the neighborhood crank that chases away meddling kids that step on your lawn.

I can say I do not watch ANY REALITY TV OR SITCOMS EVAR! I cannot stand any show on abc, pbs, cbs, or fox.... Except for family guy....

Let's not confuse "being busy" with "growing up". And as others have stated, having a hobby you enjoy (i.e. gaming) doesn't influence your maturity one way or another.

The important thing is that you have your priorities straight. Your finances (i.e. job) should be first, along with your schoolwork. The rest (dating, gaming, partying, skiing, traveling, etc...) are all just different forms of recreation.

So the fact that you are busy and not gaming doesn't make you any better, but the fact that you are taking care of your priorities before succumbing to recreational enjoyment means you're definitely maturing.

Keep up the good work.

Edit: Added even more prolific statements.

Dont feel bad. It happens to everyone. Its called a "life" and eventually it ends all the simple pleasures like video games and porn.

For some of us it happens in the late 30's.
For others, it can be lost in Junior High. I know many kids whose parents started forcing them to act like adults in the early teen years. In theory it puts them ahead, in reality it robs them of precious childhood memories.
Those days cant be bought back either.

Sorry you have so little time by age 20. My advice is to get a job after college BUT do not even think about settling down until later.
Try to enjoy bachelorhood before getting the wife and kids.

I use to game a lot but I hardly ever game now a days.

Full time job, training 16-18hrs a week + time it takes to go to and from training, part time job, sleep, watching tv stuff and social life.

The games just don't interest me as much now a days...BUT when GT5 comes out with online play I'll get that 😀. I really should play MGSII and finish the dam thing first though!

As you get older you do different things and make choices. Gaming is still fun on occasion but not as fun as it use to be for me.
