DUmeter says I'm downloading something at 50 KB/s... but I don't know what it is. Is there anyway I can check? I rebooted... and it still keeps downloading...

take out the network cord until you find the offending program. It could download a re-installer-thingy-ma-jig.

Don't be too hasty to think that it's a virus. Your network could be experiencing an ARP flood or something similar. My download rate peaked at 150 KB/s when that happened to our dorm's network a while back. Download Ethereal to do a packet analysis of the incoming traffic to your machine.

i had this happen a while back when verizon just got on the dsl bandwagon. i didn't even notice it till i first installed zonealarm into my new system. for some reason, verizon was connecting with more than 1 program to the internet, but i couldn't pinpoint which one was sending/receiving all the info. so i simply started blocking them 1 by one till i found out which ones i needed to keep my connection alive & which were unnecessary. problem solved.

like other people suggested, probably something or other updating/monitoring. use zonealarm to find your culprit.
