Well i ordered a p4 1.6 from dell, it came in a black plastic case....upon opening it, i was like wtf! this beats the sh!t out of my homebuilt rig...

The side panel swivels out on a hinge! and is not removable...I want something like that! (i can ghetto mod it but too lazy...)...

Dell routes off cables on the side (ie clips for ide cables, psu cables...etc)...so theres no need for rounded cables (i can ghetto mod this too but too lazy)

and instead of screws for pci/agp slots, they ahve a clip that extends over the screw holes!

But the one thing that impressed me, was that dell managed to get away with only 1 system fan! (theres actually 2, 1 for psu, 1 for case)
They use 1 92mm fan in the back...that way the case is quiet!

Maybe i am easily impressed, but dell did a pretty good job
 
I am completaly with you.

I ordered the 449$ dell and im on it right now. The case is amazing 😛

The only thing i didnt really like about it was the memory was kinda hard to seat 😛

It is cool how the cables are routed.
 
Gateway has an awesome case too! Everything is tool-free, and extremely easy to use. I have an athlon machine, and the only fans are the ones on the PSU and the Heatsink - and it stays VERY cool 🙂
 
those dell cases are nice. but it is not for me, becuz i feel there is almost no upgradablity in them.

Have to agree with you there, the system is very quiet. I have had people complain about the cd-rom spin up noise! Sheesh!!

I felt the same way when I ordered a 4300 machine. Yeah, it uses SDRAM, but it's more than fast enough for me. It's a very well done case design - plastic, though... be careful not to put too much strain in certain places or I'm sure it'll just snap in your hand.
Of course, it would be cheap to replace a certain plastic case panel. 🙂

All I need to do is replace the 6GB hard drive I added which is the noisiest component in there. I just *needed* the extra hard drive space. Curses for not getting the bigger, faster hard drive. 🙁
 
I'm with all of you on this! I just upgraded some HP's at the local college, all P4 Rigs, with the Asus P4V Motherboards. They wre so easy to work on, neatly built, and most of all QUIET!! I was thoroughly impressed, and was totally different than any of the older HP's, Dells and Compaqs that I had worked on before.
I also do the same with my rigs, as far as the cable routing goes. But the cooling, and tool-less options were what really got me interested! The older PowerMac series used the same kind of clip system for expansion cards. very nice option, that Apple has chosen to ignore now!

dell has clips on the side of the case (the mobo side specifically), the ide/whatever cables are bended at a 90 degree angle onto the side with the clips, there on it heads to the mobo
