I just started watching the TV show. It's awesome. I don't get why people crap all over it, though. I love Twilight Sparkle.

Well, it's natural for people to extract the seemingly relevant factors and use their past experience to try to predict whether they'll like something. MLP:FiM screams "girly cartoon", and given the history that cartoons are aimed at kids and so have little to no adult appeal, and given the history that girly cartoons are crap on crap-wheat toast, it's understandable that there might be some hesitation about whether there may be some appeal.
Also, a large percentage of men seem to have this problem where they live their lives as though they're seeking the approval of some imaginary father figure. If they don't understand where the appeal for MLP:FiM would come from at first glance, their imaginary father figure wouldn't either, so if they did watch it and like it they're terrified that they'd have to confront their daddy and explain themselves. This places a large hurdle which many probably are just not manly enough to overcome.
Also, the internet has introduced us to fetishes and transitory one-dimensional fads. This gives an additional rationale for dismissing anything that seems out-of-the-ordinary. Furries can be validly dismissed as a small subculture with no mass appeal. Nyan cat can be validly dismissed as being no great loss if you do skip it. If ponies were in one of those two categories, it would be valid to just push it aside.
But it ain't, is it!

People are lonely and isolated these days. When given a chance to be a part of something, they will jump on it. It isn't really about the show or how good it is. It's all about spreading the meme and being part of it. They want to be "fans" because it makes them as though they are part of something. And MLP stands for everything childish and positive, so they are more willing to harp on something like that.
That said, though, the show is quite good.

Those are some fantastic pieces. I especially love the translucent layer of Dash over the clouds and eclipse in the last picture, as well as the simplicity and blue of the second picture.
The neon stylings of the first and third pictures also carry their own charm.
Now that I think about it, most of my favorite fanart is of Rainbow Dash. I guess her rainbow coloring gives her a distinctive style which stands out more than that of the other ponies.

It's simple.
On whatever kind of dedicated anime/pony board you may be used too, yeah it would be a bit nutty to troll it.
However here we were mostly professionals, and now getting overrun by kids.
Proclaiming you want to somehow see two cartoon ponies fuck one day would be tramatic for any career.
It's funny at times seeing some of these links, but at the same time that is just 15-30secs of my day.

Well I finally caved in and watched the show. Sigh I have to say it's a really good little show. I hate to say it but I really like Shutterfly!
