AHCI vs. IDE SATA config on P5B Deluxe ?

I posted this quesiton in the motherboard forum and got no real answer so I will try here...

OK noob question here...got a new rig I built and it is the first time I have used SATA drives...in the BIOS there is a SATA config menu that lets you select RAID, IDE or AHCI for the SATA config. I had selected IDE cause I didn't know any different...NOW I am wondering if I should have installed the drives using AHCI?

I don't have a floppy on this PC, and I think that I might need to use a floppy if I do go that route?

Is there any other way of installing the OS with AHCI enabled without a floppy?

Is there any performance gain using AHCI vs. IDE?

Thanks in advance...

SO I have two identical 320 gb drives...

I don't want to RAID them...

IDE vs. AHCI is not any big deal as far as performance is concerned?

nope,

The only thing that could make a difference is NCQ, but that generally slows down computers in a non-server environment
