A guy lists a Kayak for sale, good price. I e-mail and ask for condition, larger pics if possible, and any issues. He e-mails me back and it sounds good, so I call him on the phone and say I'll take it, I can come by now to pick it up (he is about 90 minutes away) but he says he's going on a camping trip so Sunday afternoon would work better, but its all mine. We set a time and he e-mails me his address after we hang up.

4-5 hours go by, I get another e-mail. Sorry, more people are interested. Price is now $100 more and will require a deposit. F that.

Grr, I hate craigslist sometimes.

I would have told him I wasn't going to buy it anymore as soon as he told me that I couldn't pick it up because he wanted to use it again.

A deposit? What was your method of payment going to be?

He sounds like an ass.

I hate that shit. I had someone do that crap with a 19" LCD monitor. They said it worked, posted pics of it and wanted $60 for it. I emailed them and said I'd take it. An hour later I get a reply that says a lot of people wanted it so they're taking the best offer. I told em' to fuck off and go to EBay.

selling stuff on USENET in the early '90's was a heck of a lot more fun.

i used to sell computers & hard drives, even a power cable if someone needed it.
over a period of about 2 years, i had 0 no shows, nobody tried to bargain for a
lower price, UPS & the US postal service batted 1000 for me (150 deliveries
out of about 150 transactions involving UPS COD.)

it was like a time warp. 100% well-mannered customers, all good vibes.

i guess that's how you find out if you can trust people - do a business deal
with them. the schmo who jacked the price after you made an agreement -
it's too bad he wasted your time, but you're better off not having him in
your life.

At the moment i've been trying to come up with a creative retort, but i'm tired having just driven back from Naples with a friends new Kayak

My response so far;

'Douche..."

HEY no one is forcing you to buy...It may be fucked up, but at least in the US we have a free economy.

It's too bad that people don't stand by their word any longer. Once I've settled on a deal, it's done.

By the way, you could argue that you have a verbal contract with him and take him to small claims court. just sayin'.......

Not worth the effort, i'd rather just call him a douche and call it a day.

It's not exclusive to CL. Check out this dbag in our own FS/FT. Text

$50 for an 8800GT, that's insanely overpriced!

It not the asking price even though that is very cheap and the guy never seemed to respond after the initial post. FS/FT is not fucking eBay, do your research, post a price, sell the item.
