Dude, you seem like a decent person online, but you've had a few of these threads over the last couple of weeks where someone in the public is treating you poorly. Just a thought, but is it perhaps something that you are doing?
No doubt.
OP, you have some kind of a serious chip on your shoulder. You're probably just responding to some deep insecurities or something, because I can almost guarantee you that the people you say are acting like this wouldn't describe themselves as doing so.
Also, English is largely the language of business. Whether you like it or not, some people will take slight offense to using a non-English language in an obviously predominant English-speaking business. It suggests that they might not be educated enough to understand English, and for those that are this will come off as offensive. So, to me at least, you were actually the presumptuous one.

there's a pretty large spanish population in my town. if I'm at a restaurant and the person seems less than comfortable with english, I'll go somewhere else for dinner.

That's unfortunate. Most of the people who work at one of my favorite restaurants don't speak English well. The food is damn good though. I'm not going to pass up good food because the person who is bringing it to me is from another country. But I'm not xenophobic.

I'm not either, but if you are going to be serving me or providing me service that I am paying for then you damn well better speak English.

No. I just expect the people doing business or working here to be able to speak my language.

English is the language of business except when dealing with the pac-rim. Then you get a translator.

I expect people to learn the language, but if they don't I do my best to work with them. If they don't want to learn it it's their funeral, but I'll still be civil and try to get along with them. You "English motherfucker, do you speak it" types really feel the need to cockwalk all over the place. Seriously, nobody cares about your manhood, keep your issues to yourself or your therapist.

this has nothing to do with anyone's manhood you dipshit. This is about people coming here and then refusing to adapt and expecting natural born citizens to accommodate them.

Um... who is expecting "natural" (I assume you mean native) citizens to accommodate anybody? If somebody speaks Spanish to you and you can speak Spanish, you will be able to communicate. If you don't speak Spanish you won't be able to communicate. What's the problem? Considering that the majority of Americans do not speak Spanish it seems like it's the immigrant's problem, not yours. So why are you so defensive? Probably because you need to demonstrate your cock power at every petty opportunity.

Because my tax dollars are being spent to provide non English speakers with all sorts of government forms in their language. Drivers license applications, WIC applications, Medicare, various judicial forms, etc, etc, etc....as well as paying to put up bilingual traffic signs in many ares.
And on and on and on and on....

To me it sounds like the government has an incentive to provide such services. It doesn't really sound like something to be angry at Spanish speakers for...
Originally posted by: shinerburke
Yeah...their incentive is do it or else be protested by various groups saying the government is racist.
This is of course mostly coming from Mexican immigrants. Many of them illegal.
Oddly enough you never see the Chinese, Korean, Indian, Russian , etc, etc, etc... immigrants demanding that all these forms, signs and other various what not be printed in their native language.
