Also, English is largely the language of business. Whether you like it or not, some people will take slight offense to using a non-English language in an obviously predominant English-speaking business. It suggests that they might not be educated enough to understand English, and for those that are this will come off as offensive. So, to me at least, you were actually the presumptuous one.

After giving this serious thought [and many edited attempts at a response], you are correct on many fronts.

In the end perhaps it's just arrogance, but not with malicious intent...I just feel comfortable in a somewhat social environment [restaurant] and it is annoying that I have to deal with this crap when I am trying to relax. I fully respect English and its role as the most prominent language in American commerce, but you can't blame someone to harshly for feeling a little entitled when they are trying to relax after work etc😛

It would be hard for Chinese, Korean, Indian, or Russian immigrants to provide adequate incentive, really. Estimates for illegal immigrants, about 12 million (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I...ed_States#Terminology). Estimates for people who speak Spanish at home in the US, about 30 million (http://www.vistawide.com/languages/us_languages2.htm). That site also has a list of the most frequently spoken languages at home besides English and Spanish. No Indian language makes the list (English is widely known even in India by the classes of people likely to emigrate to the US). If one were to add the estimates for Russian, Korean, and Chinese you'd have about 3.6 million, or about 12 percent of the total who speak Spanish at home. If one were to adjust that for legal residents only the figure would be 18%.

So, to recap (excluding illegal immigrants): 262.4 million in the US, minus illegals is 250.4 million; percentage of that population speaking Spanish at home is 8; percentage speaking the languages you listed besides Indian, combined is 1.5. That leads me to believe two things: providing services in Spanish and English is a much more practical use of resources than providing them in English and any other language; as the number of legal residents using Spanish at home approaches 10% of the population, providing services in Spanish is a logically tennable decision, emotion aside.

Edit: By the way, in NYC the MetroCard (subway passes) machines can be found in Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Italian. And those are just the ones I've seen, it depends on the neighborhood you're in.
