Yeah, I hate those. I also get those spam e-mails advertising anti-spam utilities.

What's next? Email viruses that pop up advertisements for virus protection? 😀

it's odd, but I very rarely have problems with pop-ups.... Maybe I'm just lucky? Maybe it's the types of sites I visit? Maybe it's the lack of spyware on my computer? I dunno, but no problems here..

Google Toolbar = no more popups that i don't want.

I have the new toolbar...but it doesnt block anything...what do you have to do?

You should be able to configure it. I don't have it installed currently myself, but there's a config dialog built into it that allows you to set all the popup blocking options, etc.

I take the really cool animated .gifs you see on popups from time to time, and then I open their properties dialouge and use it as my avatar at some of the forums I frequent. Free hosting! Free animations!! Free GIFTS!!!!

Close, in the last couple of days, I've encountered two popups that asked me to download and install their "Security Software". They even claim to be Verisign 3 certified. Forgot what the company name was, but I just closed the popups.

The first time I encountered it, I was about to log into my online bank account. I called the bank and asked them about it, the rep said she sees it all the time and just clicks OK because their bank is very secure. I told her she better inform her security staff about it, she said she'll mention it. We'll see. Looks suspicious.

It's people like that genius who spread viruses across supposedly secure networks. She probably clicks on every one of those emails that give you a URL to go to for a prize or something, because her system is "very secure". Yeah, it's secure until you get owned by a Trojan that you let in of your own free will.

Nice to see someone else here reads Dork Tower. You're a few days late, though (Comic dated July 16)

I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image.
