That was a great resource to look up song titles, albums, labels, songwriters, publishing info, etc. :( I never bought anything from there, but damn I used it just about every day. :( Damn. It redirects to Amazon now, which has no info about albums other than track listings.

what happened to them? That was pretty sudden.

Go to allmusic.com, I'm pretty sure that's where cdnow got all their track listings and information anyway.

That sucks .. I used to use them to get a samples of songs. They had a lot more than Amazon.

Plus they had cool biographies on most artists, and good "related artists" links

Also, their "Essentials Lists" were very helpful.

Damn. really sucks.

I guess alot of just used them to look up track listings and stuff. I did actually buy a few CDs from them and the price and service was good....that was a couple years ago though.

I think that's the problem, too many people used them as just a resoucrce site. I haven't bought more than 2 cd's a year since highschool, but I usually bought one from them. I liked the site, too bad it's gone.

I tried Tower.com but they dont have complete track listings. They prolly figured it out that people were just DL'ing the track listings, thanks for the allmusic site.

Yeah, but they don't have the Windows Media/Real Player sound bites to check out a bit of a song

Here's a link. There's a bunch more stuff on this site (link, work safe, but the URL itself isn't) about the impending death of CDNow.

Seriously, who would in their right mind buy CD online?
With the wait, shipping cost, price not much cheaper than B&M ?
Every tuesday, B&M store would sell CD for pretty good price (between $9.99 to $12.99) and you can get it right then.

Too bad for them, I actually use their site like everybody else, for resources :)

That's probably why they went under! Nobody ever really bought anything from them, just used them to fix the ID3 Tags of their MP3s. :p

Yeah, but what if the only music store around you is The Wall (now FYE I think).

Those jerks sell CDs at around 18 - 22 dollars a piece.

I bought a couple CDs from them back in the day. I mainly looked for track listings and the length of songs.

That's weak. Although I live very close to their HQ. Wonder if there will be an auction?

Actually, I did order from the a fair amount of CDs...

The problem was that their shipping was not trackable, so two of the CDs I wanted were lost, and they resent them. Sooner or later that gets too expensive for them.
I am still wondering where along the route the CDs were lost - I am thinking that either at the company itself, or in the beginning part of the shipment (several thousand CDs sent out in a day, no one will miss one or two?).

That sucks. I actually liked their info, and used it mostly for the aforementioned purpose. :)
