to let me get a sound system for my car.

no not one of those Kill the windows sound system, but a 800 watt system, that has good sound quality. i dont listen to rap, but alternative, and rock, and some old rock.

my b-day is in 7 days, so i have a few days to work on them. i know what components i would get, just need to convince them.

not a HORRIFIC price, but under a grand for all, including wiring, sub, amp, and head unit. i would pay for some. any good excuses?

should i try, "then i wont be able to hear you when we start to argue?"

Is it your car?
I'll give you the standard ATOT response. If you're living at home, tough sh!t. You live by their rules, don't like it, then move out. etc etc.

This is an easy one. Convince them to get you one component - speakers, maybe - and then you of course have to have the rest.

Use the usual techniques. Be extra nice and polite, secretly do the laundry and dishes etc, dust the gerbil, and so on.

Works for my kids.

Catch 'em on a good day. It usually works. I'm sure you already know that, but you know how sometimes your parents will be so happy one day and willing to do anything. heh.

Buy your own car, and your own stereo, and then they can't tell you what to do with either of them.

yeah, they would buy the subs/amp, i would buy the headunit, wireing, and box (build it myself)

i dont know how to do the laundry correctly (problem there) i know what colors to put,l but with 4 ppl, i dont know whos is whose, what needs washed etc.

dishes, i do quite often.

going job hunting today, so it will look like i have responsibility, i have had 3 juobs, didnt like any of them so i quit them.

car isnt mine yet, but once i get a job, i can start making the 115$ monthly payments on it so it will become partially mine.

and YES they can to say no, how am i to buy stuff on the internet w/o a cc?? it took me a few months to convince them to let me build my own computer w/ my OWN money. they dont like me spending money.

So when you said, "help me convince my parents to let me get a sound system for my car", what you really meant was, "help me convince my parents to buy me a sound system for my car", right?

You're old enough to drive, but yet can't operate a washing machine? Learn to crawl before you walk, Grasshopper.

So, you can build a PC and a sound system, but you can't figure out how to do laundry properly?

I'm guessing if you really wanted to learn, you are more than capable. ;)

haaa, whats the point in PARTIALLY owning a car? i mean....i dunno, i dont get it.

anywho, if it was your money and your car, i'd say do it, but since its not either and im guessing your under 18 to say the least, just do what you can and take what you get, if they bought you a car, i'd say your lucky as it is.

JVC MP3-CD decks work well.

Personally, I've always bought all of my own stereo equipment. I spent about $1000 on the stuff for my first car (Pioneer deck, 12 disk changer, 6x9 3 ways, 4.5" in the front) and ended up selling it TO my parents for $700 after the car got totalled by some old dude that proved that at 2PM on a summer afternoon in a parking lot, a black hatchback w/ chrome trim and orange and yellow stripes is completely invisible.

Edit:
They fronted $2000 for a down payment on my second car (I paid for that one), and the $700 was taken right off that.

Instead of just asking them for money, ask them for a project you could do for THEM to make it worth THEIR while.

I've built gardens, cleaned out the basement (wow big task!) & done other time consuming / yet easy tasks like that to get my parents to get me things. It shows that your willing to work for it and not just want it because you can have it. Just make sure you settle on an amount upfront so you don't get screwed or into a big arguement later (unfortunately i know that from experience, parents can be forgetful ;))

and by the way, WTF do you need 800 watts for?
I mean goddamn thats a lot of volume -nevermind the "good sound quality" that you'll get out of a sub
rolleye.gif
. All it will do is rumble and boom. Get a decent head unit, a 400 watt amp, and two 6X9 for the back. Keep your stock speakers up front and it will sound great.

If you're talking 800 watts total power, then you should really know that that kind of power would kill your stock speakers.
WTH would you want 800 watts for alternative using a sub and stock speakers- you're either lying or don't know what you're talking about.

Oh, almost forgot. GET A JOB AND STOP YOUR WHINING.

Unless you actually intend to be almost stone deaf by the time you're in your thirties, a true 800 watts of power is obscene overkill for audio in an enclosure the size of the passenger compartment of any car. :Q

I'm a professional audio design engineer. Please believe me, or from an audio perspective, you won't be of any value to yourself, let alone me, the companies for whom I design hardware, or any music producer on the planet. See my sig.

Power doesn't necessarily kill speakers....something rated for 200w will blow if you run a 100w amp to distortion..

I have a Pioneer deck (50x4, but probably really 28x4 RMS..barely), and it's loud enough, but my speakers distort bass way too easy. I have a $30 2x120w amp and a pair of $25/ea 8" Pioneers that I just need to hook up..I think that'll do the trick for me. Nothing fancy..
