AGPers.. rejoice!!

Seems that core NVIDIA partners are set to inject a healthy dose of customer centrical love into those of us still running AGP mainboards with the introduction of an AGP 8x variant of its GeForce 7800GS.

The AGP variant of the NVIDIA GeForce 7800GS seems set to feature a core GPU frequency of 350MHz, a frequency dictated by the fact that it's, unsurprisingly, a PCIe to AGP bridged design.

However, despite this the forthcoming NVIDIA GeForce 7800GS AGP is believed to bring more grunt to your gaming than last years GeForce 6800 Ultra AGP, and we think NVIDIA and its partners should be commended for giving its customers the choice of another upgrade path, which is very likely giving a large part of the market just what it wants.

Expect the adrenalin to start with premier NVIDIA partners - eVGA and XFX Graphics on the 2nd February 2006.

😀

wow, i swear i came close to having a mental orgy... depends on how much it costs, it would very possibly make my day

Could this be one of those "White Elephants" that you would never see? lol This is great for us AGPers, even though I cant even afford the 6800GS 🙁 This is excellent news though! Maybe I could donate plasma to get this fricken thing!

i don't see 16 pipes...?

at 16 pipes and only 350 mhz there would be a lot of x850s that could give that part a run for its money

TOLD YOU SO😛

over-and-over

where are the 'AGP is dead' posters?
:Q

i STILL have almost a month to return my x850xt . . .

and of couse i EXPECT a high-end agp card from ATi

A 7800GS is a 16 pipe card that shuld be fast as/or faster than a X850XT/6800ultra.

I did hear that there are X1600XT/X1300 AGP. Soon to join are probably 7600GT (G73/72)
I still do believe AGP is dying.

Btw, last time i heard intel is preparing for PCI-e 2.0 in the near future.. hehe

AGP is still dead, but I'm happy for all the "I'll give up my AGP mobo when you pry it from my cold dead fingers" crowd.

Meh, it's not gonna be all that much better than the X850XT...even the 7800GT isn't all that much better.
To me, this is just marketing.

Now if they released an X1800XT or 7800GTX...that's another story.

I'm moving to PCI-e though...it's pretty obvious AGP is a dead end *shakes fists* :|

As long as they keep hamstringing these cards like the 6800GS and now the 7800GS what is there to rejoice about? This is pure BS, there is no reason these should be castrated from the PCI-e parts.

Yeah, I can't imagine building a new system for myself and it not being another PCI-E system, but I've got 2 kid's rigs that have AGP and don't forsee building all new rigs for them. But, when Oblivion comes out and my son wants to play it using his 5900Ultra, I'm probably gonna havta spring for a new and better AGP card. It's not worth a whole rebuild (AXP @ 2250mhz, 1GB ram, sckt A). And with me on PCI-E now, I can't pass on my 6800GTs to his system like I always did in the past. So, I hope AGP stays alive for another year or two (cuz his rig is sure to drop down to his little sister by then and I'll need a card to keep it going).

Hell Ya!

(I must be a fan boy however as I still want an ATI card for AVIVO.)

Dang, what a cool dad. to deadseasquirrel. Too bad I already own an x850xt or I'd be all over this like white on rice. Still good for people with lower-end cards who want next generation performance for their machines.

well then, it isn't "still dead" . . . yet, it is? 😛

7800GS @ 16 pipes? Thats a joke.... Why don't you guys just get X850XT's then? The regular 20 pipe 7800GT is barely better than an X850XT... Not sure why you guys are so excited. This doesn't prolong the life of AGP at all IMO. This is like a side step....
