Hey Stumps, are you saying that as long as the combined amperage is over 30, any dual/quad rail psu is fine.

I was thinking my new Zeus wouldnt cut it as although it has combined 42a, it only has 18a per rail......

that PSU should be fine..although a PSU with higher outputs on each +12v is better than more rails with lower outputs...but as long as you can get a minimum of 30a (16a x2) then everything should be sweet.

Do i have to create a cable to join the 2 separate rail or will the PSU handle it by itself. I'm asking as the card still blacks out when I try to run any 3d...

sounds more like a dodgy card to me.

I have my Sapphire running of a single line with 2 molex connectors on it, it's run fine for nearly 4 months now, so you should be able to just use a single rail.

So Stumps, you only have 18a per rail and running off just 1 rail........So it does sound like the card is a dud.......man, i've been going round in circles trying to solve this issue....

cheers bud.

I have 19a on each +12v Rail (total 36a=2x 19a).

Usually with the X1950Pro if a decent PSU doesn't fix the problems then it's a dud card, but don't feel bad about it...AGP X1950Pro's have a pretty high failure rate...but that is more often related to the underpowered PSU issue.

wow, just been on the phone to my supplier, we are going to return the PSU and card......They are removing the card from their site too.......

So, back to an old pci card and a re-think of what to do now!

I'd keep the PSU...a beefy PSU is always a good thing, as for the X1950Pro, well you could always try another brand...Sapphires have been pretty good since the second revision was released in late january...it's pretty hard to find a rev 1.0 now, most failed soon after purchase.

HIS are reasonably good as well.

I would say the best thing would be however to upgrade to a PCI-E rig...after all, AGP is pretty much obsolete now.

i'd second the 2nd sapphire idea ... mine seems to be fine although i haven't tried to OC it
[when i am ready to upgrade to HD2900xT, i will]

as to the PCIe "upgrade" .. i'd say it is over recommended

i was *totally satisfied* with my AGP x1950p with a s478 rig - THEN - just as i am *totally satisfied* with my C2D and AGP X1950p - NOW

at 14x9 or 12x10 there just isn't much *need* for the extra proc power

OTOH, at higher resolutions it IS ... and certainly with the coming DX10 games late this year and early next.

BUT ... with C2D/DDR-2/MB being SO cheap and my older HW having a 'premium' it is a logical upgrade with a much better upgrade path

i can [almost] IMMEDIATELY buy a HD2900xt or 8800GTX [actually, 'immediately'] and plug it right in ... if - say my x1950p dies ... i am not "stuck" as you are :p

and when i upgrade to a "real" PCIe MB, my CPU and RAM will have much more further performance gains thru OC'oing

we went thru this before, LOL
I have a dell xps gaming rig, first generation
tried cpuid ClockGen
no go

on the powersupply for my rig I have a dell 460 watter, that has 17A on 2 rails.
my visiontek x1950pro 256mb agp has been running for a month now without any power supply problems, it came with split connector that connects to both rails.
last night I played ut2004 with it clocked At 610 for the GPU and 724 for the memory for a hour without any problems, note I have a large very well ventilated case (I added one exhaust fan and flipped the direction of one fan from in to out)

I have picked up some performance in UT2004, I disabled (false)reduced mouse lag in the game settings and in cfg ini I set UseCompressedLightmaps=x to false. this greatly reduced the jerking when first starting a match and seemed to add a small amount of speed
I wonder what this setting does MaxPixelShaderVersion=255 ?????????????

I played the deer hunter 2005 demo last night, saw no signs of any problem with any part of them system being overloaded.
old deer hunter 5 is a different story. I have deerhunter 2004 full game installed but can't find the darn disc (it's somewhere)
