agp speed problem

ok, i just finished building a new system:
a7n8x deluxe
xp 2500+
gf4 ti-4200
wd 80gb se


the motherboard supports up to 8x agp, the card supports 4x agp. My problem is that its only running at 1x. I looked all through bios and display properties in windows and i dont see anything to make it run at 4x. I did quite a bit of searching and found a reg tweak, but its only for VIA chipsets.... anyone know how i can get it to run at 4x?
 
I think in the BIOS ( I can't remenber well) in advance chipset features (where multiplier etc. is) in the bottom there's a Enable AGP 8x. Disable and see what it happens. I have the same MB, but with AGP8x card.
 
I am not certain for the nvidia vidcards, but with ATI cards there is a tab under the display settings of the vidcard called 'SmartGART' which allows the setting of AGP speeds.

You need to go into your motherboards bios and change the agp setting to 4x!
 
there is also a feature in the detanators that allows you to change agp speed. but you have to have the hidden feature patch hack. download the coolbit over at the guru of 3d
 
Do you have the nForce AGP driver installed??? You need it to get AGP speeds - download it from Asus website for the latest version (also on your ASUS CD-ROM, but likely out of date). And, of course, AGP 4X has to be enabled in the BIOS (it's there under advanced chipset, I believe).
 
the only agp speed setting in bios is disable/enable 8x. and either way i set it its still 1x. I already have coolbits... the only thing it adds to my understanding is clock frequencies. where should i be looking to adjust agp speed?


ok. thank you soooo much selfbuilt... I just installed the nforce drivers. :| now it works at 4x speeds,
