Well I never used onboard sound before :p
My first card was a SB16 ISA card. My computers before that never had sound... after hearing those old Apple IIGS with a add in card, I finally decided to put in sound. Stuck with add-in cards ever since.

The PCI lock obviously doesn't work too well on the BE7, I haven't been able to test it cause I can't get my geiger to work on the board. The ob sound on the board is actually very good--when it works, but I had to put a Live! card in above 150fsb...

It's not the ob sound that Abit needs to work on, it's the PCI freq settings...:p:)

You think :Q

Then how does a add in card work above the 33 setting? If what you say is true... wouldnt add-in cards suffer the same problem?

LoL... Mikki, that signature of yours? I had that on both here and HWC when I first started visiting. I got rid of it for a different sig though and somebody asked to use it like I owned it when I replaced it with... one or the other of the following...

"If God did not want us to eat cows... He would not have made them out of meat."

However when my recently uninstalled Wife 1.0 seen that second one, she had me delete it

. Thats when I just started putting on my heatware link. Should have just kept it on though...
Anyway was it you who asked?

lol!!! I'm using Wife 2.0 now...those are some funny sigs...and I got mine off Thugs, I know it's old but it's still funny...:D

As far as the problem, your guess is as good as mine. My problem with the manufacturers is that they make boards without a decent lock in the first place, and so all I was saying is that they should work on that first. Why does the Live! card work when the ob sound doesn't? Don't know bud, but I'm still blaming the lock....:p;):)

I won't run a PCI bus beyond 36 MHz. Most drives will do OK even at 39, but I've had a few that are flaky at 38ish or even lower.

its not really the PCI we are interested in ~ its the AGP overclock that we want.
of course the PCI clock comes along for the ride :(
hopefully that will change in future motherboards.
