AGP Help

My motherboard says it supports 4x and 8x AGP. Does this mean I'm stuck in PCI mode with my AGP2x GF4MX420 64DDR AGP card?

Any help is appreciated.

no, your card is not suck in pci mode (unless its a pci card 🙂 )

your board is also backward compatable with any agp card that will fit in the agp slot (some old agp cards will be keyed different, and its not possbile to insert them in modern boards

lastly, im pretty sure your card is 4x agp anyway

I feel like I've tried everything to verify this card is running AGP - installed newest chipset drivers, updated the system bios, latest nVidia drivers, but properties states card is in PCI mode. RivaTuner says AGP disabled but then says 128mb AGP memroy. Apeture size is only @ 4mb and I think that'ts the problem, but there is NO settings in my bios for the aperture size.

I think I need a new card.

Sounds like driver problems to me. It could be your BIOS setting as well, but I'd bet it's mobo chipset driver trouble.

That card is almost certainly a 4X AGP card.

What does DXDIAG say?

I have an asrock P4i65GV - have selected AGP in the bios as primary.

What should I check for with DXDiag? Save all info and post it?

O.k. Thanks. It says AGP. Display properties on XP for the card says PCIx0.

he is talking about in directX (dxdiag) under the "display" tab

also, are you sure your card is agp? the geforce4 mx420 comes in both agp and pci version

Yes, it's AGP. I replaced my PCI version with this one that was given to me. For some reason the MX420 tab in XP's display properties says it's running in PCIx0. But, DXDiag says it's running in AGP mode. I could run all the DXDiag tests too.

I'll be buying a Chaintek FX5700LE 256MB tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help.

if you were able to test and complete the agp texturing in dxdiag, that means your card is running in agp mode. the stuff is says in display properties doesnt really mean anything.
