In my BIOS, there is an entry called "AGP fastwrites". I assume this has to do with the video card, right? What are fastwrites? Does it improve performance? I have it disabled right now, but should it be enabled for my GeForce4 Ti4400? Thanks for any advice.

It usually increases performance by around 5 fps on my system. Do some test and try it out for yourself.

When I enabled it I ran benchmarks in Q3A. It made me lose about .3FPS. Not that .3FPS is a huge loss, but why lose anything when you can lose nothing? Use a few benchmarks (3DMark, Q3, Serious Sam, whatever) to see if it makes a difference for you. If it's faster with it turned on, then by all means...

On my old computer it caused stability problems. Tried playing games and I would get kicked out to the desktop or froze on me. Disabled it and computer ran fine. Only a few fps difference with it on. It's on now with the computer I got now. It's on by default in the video card bios. Not sure if the motherboard supports it. No way to enable it in the mb bios I've found.
