OK, here's the thing. I'm building a new cheapo machine, see it on general hardware. Not much by anandtech standards, but it will do the job for me for the next few years. This'll be my machine, if I can keep my daughter off of it, so she can't know how fast, relative term there, it is.
So what I want to do is buy a video card, on ebay, for my old cheapo machine. I used to have a 9800 pro in it, so my ps could handle it, but the matx case was getting a little too warm. So, while my brother was serving overseas I put a new mobo into his machine, beefed up the ps, and put in the 9800. I've since figured out how to cool my case.
So, If I can beef up the graphics in that old machine I might be able to keep my budding artist happy, and at the same time keep her off my new machine. Probably have to give up my 24" Sony crt, tho.
My question is, what do I look for in an agp card? Another 9800 pro? Is there something better that will draw the same, or less, power?
Ebay's a dog eat dog place, w/bidders going over what something's worth, so if you guys could jump w/some suggestions on a card to look for, and bid on. I'm thinking under $50.

Well, if you want to stay right around $50, then absolutely your choices are going to be limited. And another 9800 Pro may be the only option.

There are quite a few AGP cards still out in the market, but I would assume each cost substantially more than $50.

Do you feel that the machine ( needs ) more than a 9800 Pro ? What is done with the machine etc ? As in gaming ?

Newegg AGP cards at $50 and less

Newegg AGP cards at $75 and less

Newegg AGP cards at $100 and less

Grab yourself a used 6600gt or 7600gs. Both are faster then a 9800 pro have better features and consume as much or less power. Should be able to nab one (used) for around 50 bucks too.

I have a very nice 9700 pro in my fs/ft thread :)

And JPB try though they might, the Braves just can't seem to get past the mets this year.

JPB....I'm going to be getting her a usb tablet to help her w/her drawing, along w/some expensive software (another thread, there) and I think I'll be needing more than my onboard graphics. I don't know, really.

Thanks for the links. I'll check that out.

Happy Medium....thanks. That's what I was looking for. Cards to set up a bid assistant with.

Jschmuck2.... Checking out the 9700. Gotta be better than this mx4000 I have laying around.
