AGP 2X or 4X slot voltage

Recent videocard models are AGP 4X compliant and my motherboard support only AGP 2X.
I understand that also the voltage is different: 3.3V for the AGP 2X and 1.5V for the AGP 4X.
Does this mean that I can burn a new AGP 4X videocard if I insert it in the AGP slot? (due to the different voltage)
What options do I have?Text:confused:

most(probably all) new video cards are backward compatable with AGP 2X, for example, if you were to go to ATI's website and check system requirements of the new ATI Radeon 9000PRO it would state: compatible with AGP 2X (3.3v), 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8v) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (2X/4X/8X). hope that helps.

The ATI specifications are a little bit different:
AGP 2.0 Compliant BUS - AGP 2X (3.3V), AGP 4X (1.5V), or AGP2X/4X based systems.

This means that only AGP 2.0 is able to give the proper voltage.
The AGP 1.0 is giving only 3.3V !!!
My motherboard is Soyo 6BA +IV with AGP 1.0.
Seems the upgrade is impossible.

No ... the vast majority of current VGA cards is "universal", fitting both 4x and 2x/1x capable mainboards. Read the ATi FAQ again.

Think were gettin mixed up with agp spec's....your board is using a BX chipset which supports AGP 2x (revision1.0)....AGP 4x is under the 2.0 revision....AGP 8x is under the 3.0 revision....with newer video cards such as the ATI card, the card adjusts the voltage, so it can be compatable to older mobo's....it seems that your confusing the AGP revisions from AGP modes, like stated above the SOYO board you have supports the AGP revsion 1.0 which is AGP 2x mode....wish i could explain better, I'm not that technical with explaination of AGP, hope that helps.
