Well, I just downloaded and installed the official #winme iso OEM release of Win ME. Everything seemed fine until I benchmarked Q3.

I did a fresh format and install of Win ME and have all the updated drivers. I'm using 5.22 for the Geforce (comes with Win ME.

My system:
Athlon650 @ 748mhz
Aopen AK72 KX133
128mb PC133
GeForce256 SDR @ 150/200
20gb Quantum Fireball LM+

Win98 (Before)
640x480 Normal: 110~fps

WinMe (After)
640x480 Normal: 78fps

Whats going on? Has anyone else had similar experiences?

ive just had the same experience with my asus P3V4X :(
seeing as your mobo is also via based then my solution may be the same for u:-

downloaded the 4.22 4in1's and installed them as per win98, and when i get the reg error at end of install just ignore and restart.
when it reboots let it find the best drivers automatically, eventually it'll show u a list of 2 different drivers it can use - use the earlier dated each time (may not june).
then i installed the 4.03 AGP gart driver and rebooted.

the drivers im using with my geforce ddr are 5.30

before i did this i was getting 90ish fps :(
now getting 145 again :) (heavily modded config tho')

looks like initial winMe support for via chipsets not looking as good as it should.
Just hope via bring out a new set of 4in1's that officially support Me in time for retail release.

hope this helps u,

rockhard :D

p.s. dont forget to reenable DMA in hardware dev manager ;)

How you actually installed the 5.22 drivers for Nvidia. If not then try to uninstall and then reinstall the 5.22 reference drivers from nvidia. I think that should do it. It's not always the greatest drivers that comes with windows :|.

vrtuoso,

the drivers that come with Win ME for the geforce 256 card are not the 5.22s they are version 4.90

you can verify this by running dxdiag

also, try downloading the 5.30 drivers, as that is what I did and they work much better. you can find them here:

Yet another example of how WinME/Microsoft gets blamed for something that is corrected by *hardware* dirvers. Yes, some basic drivers should be included in the OS, but you cannot expect the OS to automatically include the latest and greatest.

Oh yeah, anyone notice that there is an OS forum where topics like this are welcome?
