I cant get my XP1600 to go past 166mhz fsb, even at 1.85v. Perhaps my ram is holding me back? I have PC3000.

But it will do 166mhz @1.8v. I have an ABIT KX7-333. Suggestions?

What brand is the RAM?? PC3000 is plenty to o/c. It's not even at the rated speed if you're doing 166Mhz. PC3000= 366Mhz.

Well, the ram is from OCSYSTEM.COM

SiSoft Sandra says the ram is made by Golden Electronic Enterprise Ltd aka GEIL. It reads it as ULTRA333 CAS2-2-2 up to 166mhz.

PC3000 is rated at what, 183 MHz or something?... so 166 is well below its rated speed... UNLESS you have it running at really aggressive timings. Check that first.

Your chip should be able to do 166 right out of the box, at default voltage. So certainly at 1.85 V. Did you set the divider to 1/5 in the bios?... it's on the very first "page".

If it still won't budge, you might just need to burn it in. Some people will tell you burning in is pointless or it just doesn't exist, but it's for real. Download Prime95 and let it run the torture test for a few hours at a time at the highest speed it'll run stable. Then up the FSB a little at a time and repeat the process.

One more thing, what kind of cooling do you have?... high temps could also be responsible for your problems.

I just let the SPD take care of the ram timings for now.

Yes I set the 1/5, 5:2:1 in the bios.

I've been burning it in at 166mhz x 10.5 @ 1.8v for the last 6 hours.

I'm using a SVC Golden Gate, 38cfm delta. Max temp is 50C.

Check other postings on GEIL mermory. It is rated at the absolute max that it will run. Crucial and Corsair extreme both seem to overclock better than GEIL.
