whats the maximum possible speed can i get with this CPU? any general answers allowed...🙂🙂🙂

and anyone also knows where i can get a bios upgrade for my CREATIVE ANNIHILATOR2 GTS video card? its rili getting quite old but still i dont want to spend on another vcard.... ive look at CREATIVE but there are no bioses found...

pls help... 🙁

System SPecs
AXP 1800+ Palomino
256 PC2100 generic
Creative Annihilator2 (Geforce2 GTS)
15GB 7400RPM MAxtor HDD

AGOIA does 1800MHz reliably. If you want to go higher you have to spend more
on fancy cooling. It will be cheaper to buy new T-bred Athlon instead.

Here you can find all video BIOSes you need. Main website is http://x-bios.3dgames.ru/

I used to flash my Annihilator DDR with every new BIOS, but in the end there was very little benefit.

Once I flashed wrong BIOS, had to do blind reflash then. Make sure you follow all instructions to the letter.

EDIT: Dont forget to check forums there.

thanks mate... i looked at the site and it seems ive got the same bios version as is on the site... guess this is rili quite old then...

🙂🙂🙂

I always used reference Nvidia BIOS, there must be newer version there.
But again , theres practically no benefit in doing that anyway.
At best you'll be able to overclock a bit higher, thats it.

I think 3.15.01.02.00 is the one you need.
The last one on GF2 GTS list. Its also the most downloaded .

yeah i'd have to say 1743 on default voltage, and 1800-1900 with alot more voltage and good cooling, mine will boot all the way into the 1980s, but not stay stable

vrangler: i cant seem to flash the reference bios to my vcard... it says mismatched SUBSYSTEM ID or something & it doesnt allows me to flash it...

how did you flash ur vcard? i rili want to reflash my bios coz i cant seem to overclock my vcard with its current bios... so any ideas you could give???

1725? ok then ill try it.. thats 12.5x138. right? would it be necessary to run it at 1.85 voltage?

thanks..

You have to edit it with BIOS editor to match your SubVendor ID and Sub Device ID.
BIOS editor is there on the website. Make sure you back up existing BIOS and
wright down entire keystroke sequence in case you need to reflash blind.
It really saved my neck once.

I dont have this card anymore, last time I flashed BIOS like a year ago.
All I have been able to achieve was extra 10MHz for memory . Thats compared to
CoolBits overclock with default BIOS. In hindsight it wasnt worth the risk.

Are you saying you cannot overclock it at all ? Use CoolBits or RivaTuner.
BTW upgrading existing HSF to something better will help to overclock core higher.

nope, it does overclock using coolbits & rivatuner but not that much... everytime i get a speed increase of 10Mhz on core or memory, my comp suddenly reboots.... ive replace the heatsink & put heatsink on memory but then i gues this vcard is crap.... well i think this is all it can give then... btw, do you stilll remember ur core/mem at overclocked speed?

thanks...

i guess this is how far i go... at 1.85volts, i can only manage to reach at 1700Mhz cpu speed no matter what FSB/Multiplier combo i used... evetime i go past 1700, my XP machine freezes or reboots, but my WinME wont...

any suggestions i would try?

😉

I think 250/400 is the best possible overclock.
235/390 is average. What do you get?

1700MHz is rather low for AGOIA. Whats you temp under load ?
You should keep it under 55C for good stability.

i guess u could help me.... will u pls tell me how to torture test & possible AGP settings in bios for my overclocked vcard? is looping 3dmark2001se demo at default for 15 mins enuf to know ive overcloked my vcard good? or are there other test programs for vcard overclocking...??

about my CPU heres what i bserved... at 11.5 multiplier, im able to run my system at 146Mhz MAX. so im assuming that my MEMORY can handle that high of a speed... but when i get the multiplier at 12.5, i can only have it at 136-138... can u help me how to overcome this?

btw, my system is way about 49-50 degress C when at high load.. and have volcano9 at auto mode..

thanks...

Yeah, looping 3dmark is enough more or less. Watch for tearing and artifacts after some time.
Then try playing some OpenGL game for awhile, like Q3, JK2, MOHAA...
You still didnt tell me what clocks you're up to.

As for CPU tell me what mobo , memory and PCI cards you have.
It could be some BIOS setting or whatnot.

motherboard is an low cost Jetway V266B-a KT266A chipset motherboard, 128 PC2100 NCP (generic) memory, a conexant modem & cmi8738 soundcard on my pci bus....

heres an update, i manage to get 12.5x140 and it was running way fine on 3dmark looping(Windows XP SP1)... but when i tried prim95, it gave a hardware failure & the test was stopped...

does powersupply rili matters here? im just using a generic 300Watts PSU...

thanks in advance.....

I think you found the answer. 300w generic PSU doesnt cut it.
Gotta upgrade it if you want to overclock higher.

I also think that your CPU might go a bit higher with this PSU at lower voltage.
Your cooling is good enough and lower voltage will reduce strain on PSU.

ok, i guess i dont have any choice but to get a new powersupply... are HEC brand any good? thats the only brand available here...

thanks in advance...

I think HEC-350LD-T will be ok. Next choice is 450 model.
(Ignore 400 model, for CPU its the same as 350)

just an update here...

i havent got a new PSU yet but i have observed that my system is very STABLE when i dont go beyond 1700Mhz of my CPU (AXP1800+). whatever FSB/Multi combo i use, i get a stable system unless i go beyon 1700...

so can i just ask suggestions on what ratio is good to use? should i go for the highest FSB or highest Multiplier to get 1700Mhz or more soon?

current ratio is 11.5x148

thanks...

🙂🙂🙂

hello im back with some update... well i happen to got myself today a new HEC 350VD-T 350watts psu.. but sad to note that i still cant get past 1700Mhz at a stable performance.... do u think dat this CPU is already at its peak performance? i was hoping i could at least be at 2100+ level.... man i hate it when i buy something and it wouldnt work the way i wanted it to work.... 🙁🙁🙁

Yes, the CPU may be at it's peak. Don't feel bad, I had an AGOIA 1600+ too, and 1.7gig was all it would do. Now I have a T-Bred/B and it peaks @1.9gig, and now i'm bummed about that...."You will never be happy" the Lord said to his overclocking children.
