I've had my computer for about 2 years, built it myself.
The most serious problems have been the computer starting up but failing to load windows and getting the "Last Known Good Configuration". For some reason I could boot 100 times without it and other times it would happen more often than not and need to loop through a few times, recently it's been good.
The other is without even touching my cpu speeds it would say overclock fail and I'd have to go in and default everything in bios.
Also I can check my chipset temperature but the fan speed doesn't show anymore, in bios or with motherboard program. Maybe my motherboard is just failing?
Today I moved my computer upstairs as I was going to stick my new 4870 in there.
I started the computer before upgrading just to check it and it said overclocking fail. I went in and changed it to optimized default and now my computer is screwed.
When I turn it on my LEDs go on, fans start spinning 100%, and I hear a hard drive click then crumble sound (it's not loud but that's how I'd describe it). It just stays there, nothing else happens on the monitor or with anything else inside! I took a few wires out and put them back in for the hell of it, that didn't fix it. I'm really lost as to what to do about this, I don't have spare parts to test.
I'm thinking the problem is:
motherboard>hard drive>powersupply
Fairly sure there is nothing wrong with my other parts.
How do I go about diagnosing and fixing this?
EDIT: With google... Guy reporting the same problem.
