Aggressive Driver Crackdown in S.FL...

It wasn't his easiest catch. That happened back in April when Rich was sitting in an unmarked patrol car, a red Mustang, when another driver in a souped-up Civic pulled up next to him and revved his engine, egging him to race.

Linkage

Anyway, just a heads up if you are an aggressive driver take it easy out there--at least for a few weeks. Well, there aren't any aggressive drivers on this forum... so... no one really needed that warning. ;)

So, for the regulars here, enjoy the story and think of all the folks with higher insurance premiums on their way as you head down the street at the posted speed limit (or less, if necessary). :p

Updated 12/24 Edit: Followup (not so funny, but, scary about the motorcycle driver... geeze somebody should contact him and find out who his lawyer is...)

"I leaned forward in my seat so he could see my uniform," Rich said.

But the guy didn't see it and hit the gas. Rich kept up with him to clock his speed, and ended up ticketing him for driving 120 mph in a 45-mph zone.

owned.

cop was an idiot for letting him get up to 120....should have pulled him over immeadiatly and nailed him with street racing right there.

Then, we'd find out the street racer was on ATOT after he posts the question:

"I was street racing a mustang. Cop paced me for 1/4 mile. What's the legal minimum to pace? He can't be that accurate. How do I get out of this ticket?"

On Monday night, Rich saw his first aggressive driver a moment after entering the highway at Glades Road. A silver Chevrolet Tracker weaved in and out of traffic. Using his unmarked Mercury Marauder as a pace car, Rich drove behind the Chevrolet, clocking his own speed at 85 mph. He pulled the 46-year-old Illinois man over and issued a $205.50 ticket for speeding and improper lane change.

Why am I not surprised....

damn you da xpert.

anyways...in S.FL it's rampant. I am not saying I drive the speed limit, but I don't drive insane either.

Last night a PT Cruiser was ass hugging everyone...*SHE* had to pull off to the grass *TWICE* in my 20 minute commute home.

In the same breath, I passed this lady and was just cruising along when some Grand Prix that was hanging back originally came flying up on me and cut in front of me while I was already stopping at a red light (he was now in traffic)

At any given intersection the left turn arrow turning red means at least 30 seconds more of people turning.

That's one thing that pisses me off. If I'm waiting to go and I get green and more people keep turning in front of me, I'll pull out right in front of them and cut them off if I can and lay on the horn if I can't. I've had people have to stop because I went and then they got stuck sitting there in the middle of the intersection in the way of cars. Jackasses.

Yeah.. I see that happening a lot.

I also like when people aren't paying attention and they DON'T go when the light is green, they wait for it to be orange before jumping out. Yeah.. thanks for making me wait 5 more minutes.

That's funny you mention that. I'm in Wisconsin and Illinois drivers are notorious speeders here too.

Whoops, haha, now I see you're from Scansin as well. Makes sense.

there are some unmarked police camaro's that pull up at a light, and if the other person rev's they both take off. then.. after the cop has WON, he slows down and pulls them over

I didn't believe it until it was in the paper.. then the next week I SAW it.. a dark gray (maybe black?) camaro pulled up next to some firebird... then after beating him by maybe 3 car lengths he slowed down and pulled him over.

bullsh!t I say. imo a good lawyer would straighten it out.,

I hate that too. Once, I timed my green perfectly and stepped on it. The car attempting to run the red had to stop in the middle of the intersection, then reverse. We traded non-friendly hand gestures.

Man, I was really stupid in my younger years. Good thing I wasn't t-boned and maimed.

he should be off the road. I have no problem going 140mph+ on a clear road, but obviously he was passing people/lane changing.

I have almost changed lanes out of an approaching bikes way and they almost hit me trying to pass me on the right.

To those that say '130mph seems so easy in my car' it probably is...more and more cars are getting better, but at the same time physics still applies....you are now traveling faster than your eyes and other's eyes can see.

Yes in NASCAR, etc they are bumper to bumper without problems...but 80% of the pack is not traveling at 55-65 and the other 20% at 130mph+....I am willing to bet if that were the case NASCAR would be more interesting....

On the same note (again it's like smoking so I don't preach all the time even though my mom had lung cancer)...riding a motorcycle down here on S.FL insane roads is a HUGE risk...I personally know of two different riders both losing a foot/knee down at a red light when the guy behind them decided to pass and run the red.
