Agent 1.91 Released!!!

yEnc is a new encoding scheme used in newsgroups. The new Agent will decode it, the older versions don't.

Agent 1.9 cannot decode yEnc encoded files. The files had to be saved as text files and decoded manually. Forte just released Agent 1.91, which includes support for yEnc files.

I might give that a try, although I'm not a big fan of Agent's interface. I've been using xnews to decode yEnc files.

<< Wheeeeeeeee...........................yEnc pr0n, here I come!!!!!!! >>

How the hell do you get pron from a text file???

I feel the opposite of you, Xnews is very confusing to me, while Agent seems very organized. I should mention that only Agent has been upgraded to 1.91, Free Agent does not have yEnc support. You have to have a registered copy or a cracked copy.

<< You mean I finally have a reason to upgrade my version after 4 years? >>

You too? 🙂 I thought I was the only one who didn't jump the Agent ship after all these years.

redly1, I do not understand the programming aspects of it all, maybe someone else could elaborate on how it all works.

i bought agent back when it was .99d. haven't look back sinse. tried gravity. now that was a confusing piece of crap.

my one and only wish for agent would be true crosspost filtering. the crossposting filtering in agent now is lame. they should make it so it filters on the number of newsgroups. gravity has been doing that for years.

I have to agree, this yEnc crap has screwed up my world!!!😀 I am still trying to figure out .par files, now this!!!

really? after updating xnews to the lastest version, have had no problems with it.. and for par files, use smartpar, mirror, or fsraid. all equally good..

oh, two thumbs up for xnews. simple and free to use.. 🙂

Why do we need this yEnc? I was happy with the way it was before. So the files sizes are a bit smaller, big deal, it's a pain that not a lot of readers support it yet.

the latest newsbin beta supports yenc. i always thought newsbin was the easiest and thank goodness they support yenc too.
now it's as easy as it was before... but for a while it was very frustrating having all those yenc posts.

True, Agent may be confusing at first, but I stayed with it and I found it to be very, very versatile and flexible tool. Long live Forte Agent!
