I don't think I'll be getting this one as apparently it does not have formations, which was a feature from AoE II but was not in the first. I don't like the idea of moving units around that don't form up.

Looks cool.

But, its just an updated engine. I thought the game was remastered with new animations. The animations still look stiff. I was hoping that the game would had been remade like Rome: Total War. Even better! Add in some VR to boot. 3D terrain. The option for complex strategies. That is what I was hoping for.

BTW, what happened to AOE on the smartphone? Is that still a go.

^ Same here. It's not as if AoE1 already isn't patched for modern systems with widescreen / HD support... Its biggest prior compatibility problem was the same "rainbow colors in DirectDraw" thing that affected other DDraw games (Diablo2, Commandos BEL, etc), but that's long been sorted for all of them.

There are literally thousands of people saying this game doesnt work. Either wont load at all, or immediately crashes to desktop.

Ok played a game, it looks good, nice that you can zoom in and out of the map, path-finding is a bit wonky and i haven't played a game in close to 20 years

So it's yet another "remaster" that tries to justify a quadrupling in price of 20 year old games and still ends up worse than what amateur modders put out 5-10 years earlier? For those of you with a disc version, just download uPatch HD. All the same compatibility / bug fixes, improved AI, widescreen support, etc. For free. Enjoy that 330MB modded version having better AI scripting than the comically large 17GB "Definitive" one (how is that level of bloat even possible for a 1997 2D DirectDraw game)???
