Age of Empires 3 for $0.10, that's right 10 cents!

Man, Microsoft really needs to work on their user experience for Games for Windows Live. Tried to log in to my Windows Live account so I could access the marketplace and got a mysterious "An Error Occurred" pop-up with only a meaningless error code explaining what the problem was. I was about to try again when I noticed a barely visible light grey "Click here to resolve the problem" link in the pop-up. I clicked the link and got sent to a troubleshooter explaining that I hadn't agreed to the current Xbox Live license agreement.
I don't even have an Xbox, but looking at the actual agreement it also covers GFWLive as well. Any other service would just have a pop-up window forcing me to agree to their terms, Microsoft hides their's about as best they could behind a cryptic error message and an almost invisible link.

Then after entering my contact and credit card details and getting to the "Congradulations your purchase has been added to your download queue", I get nothing. Nothing is downloading, my download page is empty. Other than that "congradulations" page there's no evidence that I've actually bought the game. After about ten minutes of poking through Microsoft's help links, trying to see if I can find a solution or how to contact customer support, the game finally appears in the download queue all by itself. Leaving customers thinking they might have gotten ripped for 10 minutes isn't what I would a quality user experience.

Warcraft 2 on Kali and Red Alert Multiplayer was a blast.

SC and AOE (TA too but I was never a fan) were some of the first big name games to truly take it multiplayer for the masses.

For some reason it doesn't work for the UK.
I added it when the website thought I was German and it went through as 10 euro-cents and showed that price in my cart.
Then I switched it to en-GB, and it showed up as £0.10, but when I added it to my cart it was £27.49.

Are you using the GFWL client to do the purchase? Might be too late now, though.

Ok, me thinks Microsoft has ripped me off. I paid for the game, now it's asking for a key. I click the little "Game Keys" link and it says "no key assigned." WTF?

UPDATE: MS has made an official announcement that they're working on the problem.

Commentary: This is why Steam's system of product management is vastly superior.

Hmm... I've got the same problem. I guess should waited to see if the game actually worked before posting my rant above.

It sounds like they ran out keys due to popular demand. Steam is at least smart enough to stop selling the game in that case. Thanks for posting that link.

For 10 cents(i actually had 10 MS points so even less of a loss) I'll wait out the key issues. Well worth a few clicks and no money once it's straightened out.

I'm fairly certain Steam has had this exact problem before on some of their big sales. Though at least with Steam, it's not usually their own games that run out of keys.

"Due to the overwhelming success of the Age of Empires III sale, we have temporarily run out of keys to unlock the game. You can still buy the game at this amazing price and you will get/see a key in the next week. When new keys are added to the system you will be auto-assigned a key, there is no need to call support or take any other action from your end. We will post here on the forums when the keys are available and the next time you click 'View Game Keys' for the game you should be assigned one.

Thank you for your patience and we hope you enjoy the game."

Key? I can't even install the damn game. Keep getting error messages after about 7% installation.

Placed order yesterday, used my paypal debit card, MS.NET made two transactions, first one was for $1.00 of which I have no idea what was for. And the second was for my AOE III purchase of $.10. I also got an email from MS with my billing statement of .10 but nothing about the 1.00 charge.

On their website, it shows my card being charged .10 by them, again not the 1.00. So I removed my card and said F dat.

Also, after downing the 2GB of data, its now asking for a CD key so its still useless, what a pain. Guess this was a way for them to get a bunch of suckers, and sadly, I was one of them! I heard of others who keep getting charged various amounts by the same MS.NET after making a purchase like this in the past.

Buyers beware!
