I'm going to upgrade my gf's comp (cpu/mb/ram) so she can play age of conan. I'm struggling to decide whether to get her a quad core or a similarly priced but faster clocked dual core. Does anyone know if AOC takes advantage of quad cores or if it only does dual core? I've heard both and would love a valid opinion. Thanks from a longtime ANANTER

From what I've read and seen it takes better advantage of dual cores than it does quad cores. I can't think of many games that take much advantage of quad cores. Take the bit of money you save going with a dual core instead of a quad and make sure that she gets a beefy video card.

She has a video card already. I got her a 8600GT (or GTS, i forget) for christmas. At the time it was the fastest thing in her system, but now it will probably be the bottleneck. Fortunately she only plays at 1280 res and MMOs are cpu heavy, so I'm hoping she will be fine with it. I'm just having trouble choosing dual or quad, but I won't be doing any oc on it and neither will she so the faster stock cpu will probably be better.

Dual core will be fine if you get 2.6GHz or better. For GPU a 8800 series or better is ideal. Just my opinion anyway.

AoC doesn't really take advantage of 4 cores. On my Q6600, it only really uses 1 core and half another. The other 2 are pretty much unused . So go for the faster DC.

Getting pretty much the same results as him. Most of the time its mainly a lot on 1 core and a little on another, though occasionally I see the second core light up a little more. I would say right now your best bet is the C2D 8400, but if your looking long term I think you might see quad cores being used more in this game most likely after the first expansion, but who knows when that will be.
