So I just got an email saying I can participate in the next tech test. Anybody else?

I got one. I haven't booted up my gaming PC in a month but I guess I'll give this a shot.

Looks like they invited a lot of new people for this upcoming tech test.

I'd advise you to download the client at least 2 days in advance, and then run the auto-updater at least once before Sunday.

Hopefully they have the PVP servers up and running on Sunday, should be fun. :)

Got one yesterday and a reminder today.

Not sure I ever signed up to test Conan.

I'm in
I've been waiting for this one, hopefully they will let us keep playing in the beta after the tech test?
I've only briefly checked out the forums so I'm not sure if it's just the 3 hours or what?

They said you need roughly 35gigabytes. There are over 10 .dat files you have to download seperately plus the exe and a few misc files. Its not packaged well at all. The .dat files are around 1.6 gig each. I would say the download is around 20 gigs after looking though it again. I guess it expands to close to 35 when installed and patched. I don't feel like babysitting a download that large.

WTF

I'm not going to sink that much bandwidth into this 3 hour tech test, that's just fucking dumb.

I'll have to read up on this.

Ehh 20gb is 20% of my allowed monthly bandwidth limit. Gonna wait for a trial or something then.

Yup, followed the link in the email, but in the beta key, and registered. I then opened up the download links and saw half a page full of different links I had to download. I started looking through the size of the downloads and thought WTF?

EDIT:
Okay guys, I just did some more searching. All said it is a 13 gig download + whatever the patching process takes. We won't know how much they patch until later this week. Still too much for me just jump into.

They said you need ~35gigs to do the install since massive amounts of data need to be shuffled around. Sounds like a defrag is needed after the game installs itself lol.

13GB isn't that much. I think I'll start the transfers tonight before I go to bed.

This is going to cut heavilly into my torrenting :|

Still, 13 freaking Gb for a three hour test? I better be full on in the beta instead of just a random 3 hour person...

Anybody DL'd it yet? How fast are their servers?

LOL@ all the complaints about download size. I need to cross-reference to see how many of you were sweating Steam in that other thread. :p My install folder is currently 26.5GB but I probably have quite a bit of leftover bloat that won't be in newer builds. I'd expect at least 6GB worth of download though over that 16GB version. They did put in nicer texture packs and enabled some more lighting and particle effects, along with new icons for items/armor etc. so that's a big reason for the large size.

There's 2 ways to install, you can either go from the launcher and let the manager handle it or go from the ftp site and download in pieces with the .dat files and setup. Early on the ftp was better and faster, but you had to manage it if you didn't have a download manager. The Update server with the AoC manager is much faster now than it used to be so that may be the easier option now.

Yes, its had 2 DVD for game discs since it began listing. LOTRO did as well. These high-res packs in these massive games will continue to drive storage requirements up. There's also a ton of voice acting in AoC, which also drives up storage reqs.

Pretty crazy... I also remember dropping my jaw the first time we had a PC game that came with two CDs.

First Blu-Ray or HD-DVD game, coming soon? :p
