Installed Vista 64 Ultimate... after an hour of playing around, I have found that my FPS has barely changed. Generally faster but not to levels you'd expect from my system (imo)

At least its running a little better plus I would expect less OOM errors.

I was constantly getting 9 fps with my radeon x1900xt until I defragged my HD and compressed the game files through simple config. Now I'm at 40-50 fps. at high settings 1280x1024 without aa or bloom.

I don't have any problems on my 8800GS SLI machine or my 3850 512 in Vista 64. I get solid 25 frames with ample AA/AF turned on and 40-50's without it. 1680x1050 res.

I was having less than stellar gameplay until I installed the 175.19 WHQL drivers for my 8800GTS 512mb. The game runs sooo smooth now. This is with all settings up and shadows turned off. 1680x1050 res.

My performance has somewhat stabilised a bit in Vista64.

I am left rather confused as to why some people get great performance and others get terrible performance on two totally different systems power-wise. Its not as though its an isolated incident, its a whole game problem.

Some people find switching drivers works, others end up having perfect performance demolished at the next patch. It's odd, I'll just live with it.

Installed latest DX9.0c (June 2008)?..Its for Vista well as XP also did you disable real time scan for Windows Defender in Vista x64(I set mine to scan once a week).

I do have a 4870 card and Vista x64 ,unfortunately not AoC.

DX9.0c link.

I'll pick that up (X9c update) when I get home and try. I am also going to check the Windows Defender option too.

I have sorted out my heavy HDD work (was thrashing like a madman) and AoC loads quicker, both the pre-launch check and in-game area changes which I like. Out of memory problems have stopped since the transition from XP32 to Vista64

I am having trouble finding exactly whats dropping my performance into the mire. From the forums, I have seen Intel Quads chug in performance, cards in the G260 area that have balked at the challenge and I really cannot find the weak link in AoC. Since starting the thread, theres been a patch which creates new problems for people, fixes old problems for people and leaves those of us like me who have problems chasing shadows in the search for performance nirvana.

Anandtech's latest card roundup apparently has AoC performance figures in so I'll see if I can glean any information from that too.

EDIT: I am still on a prePCIe V2.0 board so I dont have full PCIe 2.0 throughput. Surely this couldnt be what is stifling my performance in AoC so much when I can max out the settings on Hellgate London DX10 and run it flawlessly at 1920x1080. Could it?

Are you running custom video settings? Aoc doesn't seem to like that. Also the last patch reduced my fps on average about 33% It's just horribly coded. Thankfully the last patch was enough to get me to quit
