After you put AS3 on yer CPU and put your HSF on, it needs some time to "burn in" right?

By that I mean make a good bond, I've heard people on here say it before, after they put AS3 on they give it a day or two to make a good bond from the heat and all that stuff, and after that you see the good temps on yer CPU, am I right or no?

just to confirm, you arent getting outrageously high temps, are you? Generally the drop is about 3-6C so if your temps are way too high dont expect the "burn in" to give you much more drop then that.

Yeah, that is a nice temp. I just wanted to be sure you werent overheating and hoping it would go away.

good, cuz my temps are at 51 full load, if it drops 3 i would be happy, 6 would be better.

my load temps before this new application of AS 3 were around 57C, getting the same load temp with this new application, so hopefully it will go down some, I put on a thin translucent layer and followed all the steps on the AS3 site

I'd love to hear someone explain the chemistry behind this "burn-in" thing. I don't think anyone's going to be able to do it, though.

Heating powdered silver to 50 or 60 degrees C does not change it's thermal conductivity.

i dont know if it is true, but when i reapplied it, my first appkication temps sucked 51 non load, and when i reapplied it i am at 51 load, so so far it has all been in the application.

i have heard before that it does this, but have never had a true explanation.

i could probably make one up, because as temperature increases on a lot of stuff, it changes some properties slightly, and that could be what causes it.

Same here Fenix! Mine always sits at around 8-9 degrees C above the case temp, and it's been that way since day 1.

I still don't have the hang of applying this stuff...everyone always yells and says how you need a "translucent layer" and how no matter how little you put on it's always "too much!!!". I recently did a processor with AS3 and used a toothpick to drop a small amount on the core, then spread it with a razor blade, but it was never translucent, because it's silver. The layer was paper thin but you can't see through it. I don't see how to get it any thinner.

The three times I've used AS on new heatsinks, I've never seen any change in temp between the first day and the third. So I'm not convinced there is anything to this "burn-in" temp drop.

Get CPU Cool and they will drop like 10c, my atlon normally gets 42c with cpu cool it goes to 32c Look Here

Ditto that. I've used it on the last two machines I've built and I didn't notice any drop either. The last one was a Athlon XP Thorougbred, which was 10 degrees cooler than the Athlon Palomino I built 6 months before.

that helps under load not at all. i don't see what the point is besides maybe saving battery life or a few cents on the electric bill.
