After market cooler should help...

If your case is the reason why your temps are so high, then I'm not sure exactly how much a new heatsink will help... hotter the air that moves across heat sink the worse it cools...good luck either way!

yeah, if I can con her into letting me spend the extra money, I'll pick her up an Antec 900 as well >_>

I don't expect it to happen, but hey.

I got a good price on a Tuniq tower and I slapped it in a Lian-Li PC-A05B I scored at a nice price. Definatley out of your price range, but as a benchmark, @ 3.2ghz and two notches up in vcore and I peak at 55c orthos, 25 idle. At stock, I get to 45-47C orthos.

o_O how much vcore do you have to use? My E6600 at 1.42vcore (actual) peaks below 50C under a full load.

Before going and buying a new case, cut a hole in the bottom of her case below the HD cage, for one of thse 120mm fans. It will cool down the HD's, but more importantly, it will also bring in fresh air for the NB and CPU. It won't be as good as an Antec 900, obviously, but it will be much better than it is now, with no out of pocket expense. BTW, an AC Freezer 7 Pro is more than enough for an E2180, as long as you have case ventilation.

... the bottom of her case is on carpet, it's not going to give ventilation to anything. I was thinking maybe I need to drill an intake into the back, behind the HDD cage. I've already got a fan blowing over the HDDs and an exhaust in the pocket underneat the 8800, and another fan zip-tied to the side CPU vent, to try to get more exhaust airflow from the CPU.

1.41v in bios, 1.36 actual under load, 1.2 with C1E and EIST enabled at idle.

o_O and you have a better air cooler than me. Gotta be either a drastic climate difference or a drastic case difference. Maybe both.

So put the hole on the left side of the case, directly behind (closer to the rear of the case) the HDD cage. The NB, CPU, video card, and RAM will all benefit from it. You could also use a couple of 15mm, lower-flow 80mm fans, to accomplish the same thing. I actually bought one of these, to keep a HD cool in an old spare case, and was amazed at how much air it moved, with close to zero noise. So, I ordered four more of them, to use for other things besides HDD's.

Sweet, she doesn't like the temps either and wants me to pick up an Antec 900 :p

None of the places around here have the AF7Pro in stock, though, so imma have to order that V_V

Buy.com seems to be the best deal at the moment, especially since I've never used GCO.

Ok, Antec 900 dropped temps all around by ~10C.

CPU's still hotter than I'd like, but it's under 60C at full load according to HWMonitor.

Speaking of which, is the tjmax for the E2180 85C or 100C? Coretemp/Realtemp say 85C, HWMonitor says 100C. I generally go with HWmonitor because I like erring on the side of caution, so I just go with the higher number :p

Tried OC to 3ghz on stock volts, just on a whim. Errored out of Orthos after an hour (better than I expected).

Since I don't want to bump voltage until her AF7Pro gets here, I'm trying 2.5 on stock volts right now. Hour and a half with no errors so far!

Jax, if it took an hour to error in Orthos @ 3.0 Ghz, 2.7-2.8 will be rock stable, at the same vcore.<<--That's assuming the same RAM multilier and timings, of course.

I'm sure, but I didn't wanna spent a lot of time having to stability test. I wanna play SupCom with her this afternoon.

I figured that if it took an hour to error at 3GHZ, 2.7 or so would be stable, so I'd only go to 2.5 so I'd be *certain* it was stable so we can play this afternoon.

I'll get more indepth when her AF7Pro gets here, maybe shoot for 3.2. Glad to see the chip doesn't suck at OC, though.

Nice, Orthos stable for 7 hours at 2.5. Played a 45-minute game of SupCom just fine too (yay, I can *finally* play supcom with her!).
