After Upgrade, Do I Have To Re-activate XP?

Hello,

I'm planning on upgrading my mainboard, CPU, memory, and video card. I wanted to know if after I do that, will XP want me to reactivate it? I heard that when you activate XP the first time, it keeps a record of what your PC's specs are. So if I change a lot of the components, will it think I'm trying to use it on another PC? Anyone know what's in store for me here? Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Hans Groenewold

You may. If you do, call them up, explain you upgraded some components, get the new activation code. Simple, painless.

Is your xp OEM or retail?
They will give you a hassle on oem if you tell them.
If you have only activated it once then you can activate again.
After that then they will make you call.

Hello,

XP came with the PC when I bought it, I have the original disc and registration/ activation code. In fact, a month or so ago, I had to reinstall XP when my PC malfunctioned. I activated it again at that time with no problem. I dread making that call as I can only imagine how long that'll take.

Thanks,

Hans Groenewold

It will not be long at all.
You are entitled to upgrade your computer even if you have an OEM version of XP (which is the case for you).

Just attempt to activate online. It may activate. If not, you will be given a phone number and you call and answer their questions and it will take 5 minutes.
