After six years of waiting, I finally upgraded .... and installed W7HPrem!!

I went from a single core P4 3.2 that I managed to sell for $100 parted out on Ebay to an i5 2500k w/8 gigs, used video card and H61b3 mobo. The total system cost after rebates and selling old parts was $200.

According to cpubenchmark.net, the new system is 14X faster than my old system and it cost very little. I like to create videos, edit and encode them. What used to take 30-40 mins to accomplish now only takes two minutes!!

Im sticking with XP because it is superior to Win7 IMO even though I cant access the full 8 gigs. I think MS will relent on killing support for XP in April 2014, but I might slowly migrate to W7-64 eventually. D:

08/4/2011 EDIT: After relentless pressure, I have installed WIN7HPrem. Its not so bad afterall.

i'm so sorry

after moving to OSX/Win7 all I could think of was "what took me so damn long" (actually, I know why it took so long, but srsly OSX/Win7 > XP by a mile)

not sure why you would willingly cripple youself with XP

This.

Get with the times, by comparison XP now sucks.

Wait... So you're sticking with an inferior system and you are crippling how much RAM you can access.... For....What?

I don't want to start any flames, but out of curiosity why did you form that opinion? I have a specific department that is resisting the transition at work and I don't understand why. They'll be responding to a survey next week but I thought I would get your thoughts as a more knowledgeable user.

For work, XP is still fine and unless you upgrade their computers so that they can actually RUN Win7 properly, I could understand the resistance.

Also, why spend the money right now if XP works fine? What does Win7 do that you need that makes it worth it? I can see it for some industries, but certainly not all.

Hell, even vista is better than XP. Yea, I said it.

But seriously, why would you willingly cripple your system and artificially restrict your ram just because you have some weird attachment to Windows XP?

Microsoft's attempt to make Vista and Win7 easier to use than XP have failed. I know where everything is at in XP, I know how to customize it to my liking and I know how to use its tools. I can also download numerous tweaks and make it even more handy.

Having to get used to a new OS sucks, plain and simple. And dealing with permissions is a pain in the rear end.

I get the impression he started this thread then just sits back and watches the insults with no interest in responding and explaining himself.

Yes it does. Well or perhaps Linux. But Mac users are numbskulls who need everything user-friendlyified because they aren't tech savvy.

I was thinking linux, also I use OSX and I'm tech savvy, no I'm not prepared to get into a Mac vs PC argument with you or anyone else in this thread, IMO some Mac users are more tech-savvy than many "Power" PC users..

Let's see..I know where everything is in Win7, can customize it to my liking and know how to use its tools. I have no need to download tweaks to make it more handy.

Also, I don't have to deal with permissions....what do you have to ask mommy to upgrade to Win7? Is that what you mean?

Trololololoololol

Also you dont sound very tech savy if you arent on Win7 64 bit and using a SSD.

I cant effectively scrub data on SSD, and I dont encrypt my drives. Although now that Sandy Bridge has encryption acceleration, I might give in and start using it.

The transition from XP to Win 7.. is as smooth as it gets. I think you are afraid that there will be huge change, if you don't like the theme of Win 7.. you can always use the classic theme.. which is very similar to XP.

EDIT: Oh and driver support is much much better.

I installed win7 and didn't bother installing any tweaks or download any drivers.

worked fine (unlike XP)
