After Shave?

Ive been using the electric shaver for a long time now. I just picked up some MAN BLADES and some shaving gel. Should I go back and get the after shave? I really dont know what purpose it serves.

2. Use a face scrub to stimulate the whiskers and get rid of dead skin.
3. Apply Edge shaving gel.
4. Run a good sharp razor under cold water and shave.
5. Apply an aftershave balm afterwards.
