I installed the Windows XP service pack 1 and now my CPU usage jumps ALL over the place (up to 90%) when I have absolutely nothing running, and I even get a message saying my Virtual Memory is low and something about the pagefile.

I didn't have ANY of the problems before I installed the Service Pack 1.

I'm running a AMD XP2600 at 1.92ghz (default), 256mb of OCZ3200, 80gb hard drive.

Isn't indexing service enabled by default with XP SP1?

Could try disabling it if it really bugs you, but it should stop after you resume activity on your computer.

No, this high cpu utilisation problem is an epidemic effect upon a great many people who have installed Windows XP Service Pack 1.

I've been searching for a fix and have yet to find one. I have installed all Windows updates.

I'm so mad at Microsoft right now. I want to throw a pie in their faces.
