Discussion After selling my Dual XEON platinums...here comes the EPYC 64 core Monster roaring to life!

With enough cores and flops for the entire family and more to spare
Build was almost derailed becuase lack of EPYC compatible CPU cooler in Toronto Canada....found the ONLY one in all of Ontario on Friday....Everything housed in a Lian-Li PCV-2120x case that I bought in 2013 which will last for many many more years to come!
This thing DEMOLISHES my old Dual CPU XEON platinum (2x28cores) and consumes 200W less power and I can run it 100% load without turning my room into a sauna!

Nice rig ! What are your system specs ? Below is a build for myself that I just finished:

EPYC 7742 64 core / 128t processor
EPYCD8-2T motherboard
Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 cooler
8 x 16 gig Nemix 16 gig 2666 ECC memory (128 gig total)
2 x 500 gig NVME M.2 drives.
2080TI Nvidia card.

Mine has it. Blue light, Green light, and red NVME drive, all at the bottom of the motherboard.

Jealous. Would love to have one, but it's too much for my blood and I don't use it professionally, so hard to justify dropping couple of grand on it when I can get 3950x for nearly quarter of the price.

The thing is you would never see someone try that on a intel platinum dual.
Because Intel Scalable is serious business. (trying to be serious.. )

It takes a AMD user to go "Here hold my beer 'LEEROY JINKENS'" and pull that off.

Do you have any concerns with it running at 88c? I saw this same thread in another forum and a few people mentioned the high temps.

Smooth, OP. That's a lot of Monero hashpower. I don't think it's really "worth it" solely from that perspective, but I have a feeling you have more in mind for that rig than just mining XMR.

I now have a 120mm fan blowing at the VRMs (85C vs 70C) and the core temp according to the bios never exceeds 70C

Smooth, OP. That's a lot of Monero hashpower. I don't think it's really "worth it" solely from that perspective, but I have a feeling you have more in mind for that rig than just mining XMR.

This machine is multi-purpose so mining is only part of its job, hence I do not use the traditional ROI calculations. I've been mining monero and BTC for a long time so most of my hardware are all self-funded.

Our current COVID electricity rate is 12.5C/KwH. This rig already consumes 300W less than the comparable dual intel platinums.

How much was the processor? I know that you sold your old gear. Google shows that to be a very expensive chip. Yes, I'm jealous. I couldn't afford a platinum setup, either. Must be nice.

This chip is only USD$2150 and I got the shaft because of the low CAD:USD exchange rate. The two XEONs was sold for more than that so it helped cover the cost of the motherboard.
