after no router, nic now gives error

since one of my comps has recently went down, i decided to take down my router. now that my modem is directly connected to my comp. my nic card in the system tray corner now shows a error saying "limited or no connectivity". it appears as if it can't find an ip address.

is there any setting i have to change or modify since i am no longer using a router?

well i set one up using the windows built in ppoe. but that doesn't explain why my nic is giving me the error.

well assuming your not able to connect to the internet would be a reason for that message....i guess.
are you able to log in ok with V-DSL?

Gunbuster, networking isn't really my thing....but..if that nic is for DSL how can you set an IP, when most likely its a dynamic IP....if dumb question excuse me for askin.

There is an check box he could uncheck to notify if connection is limited or no connectivity. that would solve that...but i guess, i'm still not sure whether or not his DSL connection is ok....if he connects fine, then just uncheck that box....right?

my dsl connection is fine. i can connect.

but the nic is giving me an error. l

Gunbuster: if its looking for the DHCP and can't find it, how would i set up an ip? like trashman said, i have dsl and it is a dynamic ip address.

Unplug the modem for a while, then plug it in again. EDIT: from the electrical power outlet, I mean.

its doing that everytime. even after cold boots seperated by days. ever since i stopped using the router its been giving me this problem.

If your NIC can spoof the MAC address of your router, then you might try that. Why are you trying to off your router, anyway? It serves as a perimeter firewall, for starters.
